pinky mitchell the first ever light welter weight challenger.

His manager had claimed he had 40 fights or something but he realy was making his pro debut against mushy callahan and got battered and lost.

callaghna made a defence of his title but was beat in his second defence

I just checked, Mitchell had people like Lew Tendler, Jack Britton, Joe Dundee and Benny Leonard on his record before he beat Callaghan. No way can also those type of guys be fictional opponents.

Decent debut. Who was the Midlands Area champ when Audley turned pro?

Art Oliver fought his pro debut against Buddy Baer.

Buddy was Max Baers brother and still holds the record for the most first round knockouts behind only Jack Dempsey. He knocked Joe Louis out of the ring and gave him a tough fight.

A lot of the Thais who fight top level opposition early, are experienced Muay Thai fighters....

But going back to the Western world, I believe Bonecrusher fought and lost to future contender and then top class amateur James Broad on debut before beating future alphabet cruiser titlist Ricky Parkey in fight two.

Jones Jr was fighting fringe contenders by fight three.

Michael Carbajal debuted against Will Grigsby.

Choi has been brought up hard, as has Al Hamidi. Matched well he could be a decent domestic fighter, but he's fought a lot of decent prospects from the get-go (and deserved a win over John Murray if you believe the reports, never saw the fight myself)

Archie Moore fought a few debutants too.

Classic posters might have more of an idea though on this subject.

TBH I think its a case of incomplete boxrec records.
