Default So who do we think met the toughest opposition overall?

I'm talking about, win or lose, the fighter who met the toughest bunch.

I always said it was between Moore, Langford, Greb and Rosenbloom or, fight-for-fight, Jimmy McLarnin.

Another good contender is Sammy Angott. Look at it!:

Ike Williams x4
Ray Robinson x3
Bob Montgomery x3
Beau Jack x2
Baby Arizmendi x2
Lew Jenkins
Freddie Miller
Willie Pep
Fritzie Zivic

Those are just the Hall of Famers. It's Angott's constant goings-on with top ten challengers that solidifies his claim. But he's still not number one for me.

Any definitive choices? I think I like Moore:

Harold Johnson x5
Jimmy Bivins x5
Ezzard Charles x3
Joey Maxim x3
Lloyd Marshall x2
Holman Williams x2
Cocoa Kid
Teddy Yarosz
Charley Burley
Willie Pastrano
Bobo Olson
Floyd Patterson
Muhammad Ali
Rocky Marciano

Again, all Hall of Famers (crazy). It really becomes the ultimate record for me when you add about another fifteen fights against Eddie Booker, Jack Chase, Bert Lytell, Tiger Wade, Alabama Kid and The Hogues. Astonishing depth and top level pound-for-pound greats of every style and division.

Anyone else?

Shit, Moore had fifteen fights against top twenty five all-time light heavyweights. Proven.

Flea would vote for Ricardo Lopez.

Of course not. But I have to say, I know the opponents of Moore, Armstrong and Williams very well. Too well

Alvarez dropped Lewis in a sparring match. This alone its worth more than Terry Norris' entire career.

For a journeyman, David Jaco took some really big wallops from some very good fighters. He doesn't come close to the toughest competition when compared to guys like Moore, Charles, Zivic, Armstrong, Williams, etc, but for someone of his calibre (or lack of), he had it pretty rough fighting the following guys for probably little pay:

Carl Williams
Razor Ruddock
Pierre Coetzer
Tony Tucker
Mike Tyson
Buster Douglas
Jose Ribalta
Mike Weaver
Oliver McCall
Gary Mason
George Foreman
Tommy Morrison
David Bey
Mike Hunter
Adilson Rodrigues
Bert Cooper
Alex Stewart

Joe Grim fought :

Bob Fitzsimmons
Joe Gans
Joe Walcott
Jack Johnson
Jack Blackburn
Philadelphia Jack O'Brien
Battling Levinsky
Sam McVey
Dave Holly
Luther McCarty
Peter Maher
Hugo Kelley

I've often seen the top three names there cited as among the all-time top 20 of pound-for-pound greats.
