I think saijo was on about par with Marquez.

If he stuck to his very good offensive standup boxing, he'd have a good chance at winning, but he did like to mix it up a bit and could get forgetful defensively.I think if he could maintain his discipline he would have the slight edge.

Im not even going to name the usual suspects because IMO Juan loses to some of the second tier at 126-130 aswell And before people jump down my throat, thats not having a dig at JMM, these are good fighters Im talking about and Im not even saying he loses to all of them anyway.

@ 126

vs Jose Legra
vs Shozo Saijo
vs Davey Moore
vs Naseem Hamed
vs Johnny Famechon
vs Azumah Nelson

@ 130

vs Brain Mitchell
vs Alfredo Esclara
vs Kuniaki Shibata
vs Acelino Freitis
vs Yong Soo Choi
vs Sam Serrano

NB..some of those guys may not even second tier fighters in your eyes but you get what Im aiming at.
I'd love to see Kuniaki Shibata take on Marquez at 126. The prime Shibata that faced Saldivar and Ernesto Marcel. That would be one hell of a fight. Shibata was a very solid fighter, without too many flaws. Really took it to Marcel for 10 rounds before being overwhelmed in the last third of the fight.

We saw old Barrera give Marquez hell with his handspeed and combos, and Shibata is certainly not inferior to Barrera in that department.

Close to a 50-50 fight I'd say. I'd probably take Shibata with a gun to my head.

Havent seen much of him. Ive been told he could upset someone like Marquez but from what Ive seen I dont really see it.
JMM would do him' much like Gomez did IMO. Probably take a bit longer about it.

Me too. Wonderful battle of left hands. Marquez could recover after flash knockdowns though, which Kuniaki couldn't. Shibata has the speed advantage here. Could go either way.

Or maybe Saijo fights a relatively controlled fight like he did against Rojas and gives Marquez a very tough fight.

His ko over Pac was very impressive, but there's this ridiculous tendency with the general forum types to painfully and unrealistically overrate JMM. In so many fights, his chin has proved vulnerable. Of course, he's gotten up each time, but I see him staying down vs guys in the past like Arguello, Napoles and others who had more one shot power than Pac or the other's that he's faced.

At LW I'd put him in against most of the fringe greats such as Mancini and Philip Holiday. He'd beat these guys but lose against the top guys such as Ortiz and Duran. Also, Mosley at LW would probably beat him (alhtough JMM would've been the best guy he fought there, I personally think Shane was beter as a Welter)

Only my opinion though.
That sounds about right Flea!..
