Default katsidis could train in the philippines

thought some of you guys would be interested with this. i did not quite know why katsidis was at the world cup. then i find out that he WAS named TEAM CAPTAIN since pac went home.

the article is shitty because the writer did not know much but the interview part was nice. check it out.

i would say go for it - just look at what training in thailand did for Paul Briggs when he was kick boxing

the flips live and breathe boxing - he would get max concentration and a really hard old school training camp

I disagree. Boxing is an extremely techincal sport, and I think training in the US will offer him the best sparring, coaches and facilities. The phillipines will be good for isolation but nothing else IMO. He won't get sparring with guys like Shane Mosley in the phillipines thats for sure, or get a chance to work around great coaches like Freddie Roach. These guys are the ultimate professionals. The training they do will be just as hard whether it be in the US or in the Phillipines. The reason that Thailand is good for Muai Thai, is because not only of the hard training and concentration, but the depth of talent and knowledge and fighters that Australia simply could not compare to.

i agree with much of your post except the highlighted part as roach is in the philippines right now. roach has also showed willingness to move camp as shown by the dlh-pbf fight where dlh trained in pr. i think initial trianing and conditioning in the philippines then move to the US for sparring and fine tuning for katsidis will work great.

I think Kat should base himself in the USA. But also i think a trip to the Philippines for a change of pace would be good, just not all the time. Plus there isnt that many big guys to spar him, pinoys are little people. Where he could spar middles in AmeriKKKa.

Im definitely in agreement with MSTR. The Philipines would be a good place to go for someone who lacked heart and tenacity, which Katsidis has in abundance already. Hed be much better off going to the states and working on the technical side of his game, specifically his leaky defense. The quality the technical side of stuff as well as the quality of sparring are definitely more what he wants to make the next step up to the world stage.

Good point... Freddie Roach was just an example though. He doesn't actually train Katsidis. I was more leaning towards the fact that in the US there will be a plethora of great boxing minds to work with. I am sure some of them would provide input somewhere along the line, even if only to a small degree. Being the mecca of boxing, you have the best of everything at your fingertips really. Still your idea about moving camps could be a good one.

yup, i know that roach isn't kat's trainer. i just stated that training outside the US with a great trainer is not impossible. as i have said in my earlier post, sparring should be done in the US because there aren't many world class filipino fighters at 135.

but going to the philippines to train with the whole "family" will, IMO, be a great thing for the development of katsidis. filipino boxers fight for survival. many of them have not finished schooling and have nothing else but boxing to feed their families. we know quite well that katsidis could abandon boxing altogether and still have a great life in australia

what i'm saying is that if he trains with filipinos who'd kill themselves just to win fights for the their families, then kat will be pushed like never before and he will be a better fighter because of this. the filipino fighters are definitely not a bad bunch to be buddies with.

Depending on the conditions there it could be great for his conditioning. I don't think it would be any different however to going to Big Bear or any other secluded training camp. At this level all of the guys train their guts out, regardless of whether they are educated or have things to fall back on. When there is big dollars on an outcome, and professional conditioning coaches are available, probably the best thing can do is altitude training IMO. Phillipino fighters still face the same distractions every other fighter does. I have seen fighters in similar countries succum to the party life (Thailand) simply because in their small countries they are treated like superstars. Katsidis is away from home in the US regardless, so he really shouldnt have many distractions, and can still be involved in his promotional obligations (if any) and can as said earlier still have everything at his fingertips. Being in a gym like Wildcard around other great fighters could also be a great experience for him and a big motivational tool. It really just depends what his particular preference is.

very true. in the end, it will be up to katsidis himself where he feels there is more to gain.

Gotta agree with what most of what MSTR says.
One thing though is that its sometimes good to be taken outside you comfort zone, if can toughen you physically and mentally.

Going home after training to your 4 star hotel, were you will get a massage, hot showers, bathrobe and those little mints they leave on your pillow might be to indulgent.

Being in a situation where you would almost prefer to be training might be good, I dont know im not a doctor.
