Default Jack Dempsey ancestry?

I was curious how much Cherokee ancestry Dempsey had, hearing forever that he was Irish and Cherokee, if it was a little sliver or more like Tommy Morrison who was half, I guess. Wikipedia didn't go into it much but does list Cherokee. I looked further and this guy on yahoo posted some strong statements on that matter:

<b> <b> [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Thomas answered 1 year agoNo, because he was simply claiming &quot;Cherokee blood&quot; like many American do, with no proof. It was kind of like how Johnny Cash claimed to be &quot;part-Cherokee&quot;…or like how Elizabeth ****** still claims she has &quot;Cherokee heritage.&quot; There is no tribal affiliation or ancestry that can be shown. Dempsey had no recognized Cherokee ancestors.Jack Dempsey's father was Hiram Dempsey, born in 1856 in Logan Co, VA, to non-Cherokee parents William A Dempsey (b. 1827) and Mahulda Blair (b. 1824). They show up in standard American society, nowhere near a Cherokee community and listed in records as White. William was the son of non-Cherokees Joseph Dempsey (b. 1797) and Asina Vance (b. 1791). Joseph may had Jewish roots through his mother (Rachel Solomon), but they most certainly were not Cherokee. All of his paternal lines are trace back to non-Cherokee people. His mother was Mary Celia Smoot, born in 1859 in Logan Co., VA. Her non-Cherokee parents were Charles Smoot and Florence Greaver. They also show up in White society and records. In fact, Charles Smoot shows up in the 1860 Logan County Slave schedule and lists a number of Black slaves he owned. Charles Smoot was the son of Daniel Smoot (b. 1784 in MD - he was not Cherokee) and Mary Anderson (b. 1789 NC - daughter early eastern NC colonial settlers). They also never show up with any connection to Cherokee people. His family tree is actually traced on the web (numerous sites) and you can also do primary research to confirm all these links. You will find there is not one ancestor that shows up as a recognized tribal member. There are a few genealogy forums that have posts from Dempsey descendants that are recycling the Cherokee blood myths and stating that Jack's family were partially Cherokee from vague ancestors those that &quot;hid out.&quot; However, this is just standard blood lore and is just being posted by people that aren't truly tracing the family back just several more generations, back to their origin in eastern colonial (White) families. All lines can be traced back to the 1700s and they are not Indian or Cherokee.

<b> <b> I was curious what anybody here who's looked into it could say. Did you also come to the conclusion that there wasn't anything to be found for Cherokee ancestry or what? Thanks.

Dempsey was full-blooded Hebrew. He used to do standup under the name Shecky Weinberg. But his Mormon church refused to allow him take part in their tabernacle choir until he dropped the act. Then people found out that he had one of the great voices of all heavyweight champs since Pinklon Thomas, who was pre-linearly champion before and post-linearly champion after Dempsey. A lot of people on Yahoo do not know these things or are deliberately trying to keep them from you, as they are the true nature of thetans.

From his obit in the Ny Times dated 1June1983:" Hyrum Dempsey was a tough, restless descendant of Irish immigrants who had quit a job as schoolteacher to venture west. There was a strain of Indian blood in both parents revealed in the baby's blueblack hair and high cheekbones. They named him William Harrison Dempsey and called him Harry, but at 16 he went his own way and adopted his own names."

Believe what you will but in my opinion, when you look at some of his photos, it is fairly clear that he does have the looks of Indian ancestry.

Having the looks is one thing but if someone has done his genealogy (?) as suggested and turned up zilch he probably doesn't have enough to bother mentioning.

Dempsey himself was proud of his mothers half Cherokee roots. Read his biography.
