Up, down, doesn't matter.

Moorer completely skipping Cruiser on the way to LHW to HW was a potential mistake, in my opinion. 38 pounds in 4 months is pretty serious.

Eddie Mustafa Muhammad fightin at heavyweight at 201 pounds then boiling down to 175 for Spink's 2 months later was out there.

For the better, Lou Gent going down from Cruiser to a Super Middle fight with Nigel Benn.

Dingaan went from a former 135lber, 147lber to a 168lber within two years.

Vinny (Paz)ienza decided to jump from 140 to 154 in seven moths.

I think Armstrong went from Featherweight to Welterweight and then Lightweight.

Tommy was more extreme, in that he won his alphabet crap at 147, 154 then 175, before going back down to 160.

I agree with you about Paz. He was an awesome fighter in the smaller weight classes and if I'm correct, then retired as a super middleweight? I don't know why he let himself get so pumped up, he looked like a bodybuilder.

what about David Barnes a solid British domestic contender and maybe even European title holder material at Welter moved down to Light welter where he looks weight drained now

In those days you couldnt pile on muscle like you can today.

Armstrong had to drink gallons of water before the weigh in to make welterweight.

No reason for Armstromg to drink gallons of water. He was 133,5 for the Barney Ross fight, and had been fighting at 130 to 135 for the last 10 fights at least.

I ran across former Welterweight challenger Scott Clark recently and asked him why he never fought again after the loss to Pipino Cuevas. He said his manager demanded he drop to Lightweight for future fights and he declined, sitting out the rest of his contract.

Asking a twenty year old struggling to make 147 to dry out to 135 would classify as a proposed "strangest move in weight". Stupid.
