Default Arlovski appreciation thread

I don't think Arlovski got the appreciation he deserved in the UFC. After losing to Sylvia the second time after a five round lack luster event, he was treated like a leper. IMO he won that descision against Sylvia (it was reported Sylvia passed out from a concussion after the match), and had a very impressive win over Cruz, in which he ko'ed him from a seated position to his win over Jake O'Brien which he won by tko. O'Brien held a win over Herring and Cruz held a win over Mir, they were no pushovers. And then there's the Werdum fight. I feel Arlovski was never endangered of losing this fight. Werdum was overwelmed with Arloski's striking, and he is the one who made it a bad fight, not trying to engage Arlovski, who was clearly in control. Arlovski however, was treated as a fighter on the downside of his career in the UFC, and slipped out of main event contention. Was this fair?

In my opinion AA has never been that good. Extremely overrated and too in love with he's stand up. That being said Dana was a cunt and tried to take him for one.

I agree that he is in love with his stand-up. All he seems to train is kickboxing or boxing judging from that 24/7 series thing they had before the Fedor fight. What gets me though is that he has a background in Sambo, or at least I think he does and he doesn't use it ever. It's crystal clear that it is effective from guys like Fedor, Kharitonov and from way back when, Taktarov etc. Terrible waste.

Thats what happens when you've been told a thousand times he has a great standup. I dont think AA even knows what Sambo is anymore.

Yep. For a supposed Sambo fighter, he often looks lost on the ground.

Some appreciation thread this is!

That was just Roach hyping he's fight with Fedor. AA wouldnt even be a quality journeyman in the pro ranks. MMA striking and boxing are two entirely diffrent beasts. Bearing in mind the guys chin is soooo sooo horrid id prefer not to see him anywhere near a boxing ring.

If AA was American, British or had a lucrative market to sell the AA brand to they would have treated him differently. If AA would act like a complete prick like Junie Browing he would be appreciated more by American fans.

Arlovski doesn't have any bad losses, he was the UFC champion, he has skills and if he was in the UFC he would be one of the more dangerous fighter. The reason I think the UFC treated him like they did is because they hyped him and hyped him saying he is "unbeatable" and when he lost they marketed him wrong and thought "we can market Lesner like AA because he is bigger and people know who he is"
