Default The most mysterious champion

Over the years, boxing has had a lot of very mysterious characters and champions, but who was most mysterious? For me, it has to be Sonny Liston. The mysterious way in which he died, being involved with the mob, and being involved in the famous Phantom Punch. Was it a dive, or was it legit? IMO it was a dive, but still, its an interesting and very controversial subject.

No one knew when Liston was born OR when he died. His own mother didn't know when he was born.

Mysterious indeed.

To me it's a "mystery" that, with all that was stacked up against him, he was able to make something of his life: he became the champ!

The man had heart. It broke my heart to learn he headed home after winning the title, planned a speech on being the people's champion, and there was no one there to welcome him.

Yeah, I felt sorry for Sonny after I heard that.
