Default Best performance by a foreign fighter on British shores?

I will start the thread off with a nomination that comes to mind.

Thualine "Sugar Boy Malinga"

1996 - Newcastle, England.

The guy was 40 years old.

He had already failed in previous World title attempts.

This was his last chance.

He had left no stone unturned for this final World title challenge.

Back home in South Africa - he had prepared for the fight of his life by

Chopping wood relentlessly

and

Sparring a total of 600 rounds of hard gym graft

on top of other usual boxing training, running, conditioning, bags, etc

he was in the shape of his life

he came over to face

Champion - Nigel Benn

a fighter he had already outboxed in a 10 rounder before only to be denied the decsion by the judges.

Malinga fought a disciplined fight - and was floored heavily in the 5th round - but held it together and came out with a comfortable Unamonious Decsion.

Malinga's crowining glory was over shaadowed

by Nigel Benn breaking down in the ring crying - decalring his retirement

in a scene out of Rocky - Benn then proposed to Caroline - and she said YES on live TV

Drama galore

But give Malinga his due

At 40 years old he came to Britain and realised his dream to become

WORLD CHAMPION !!!!!

Romanov, Kotelnik, Prescott and Luevano are some recent examples.

I thought his final eliminator against Juan Laporte answered more questions and was a much better performance than against Pedroza IMO....

McGuigan could have got a fight with Azumah Nelson for half the money they paid Pedroza.... but they were not going to let McGuigan anywhere near Nelson..

That said, it was great for British boxing when Barry won the World Title and the way he enabled two commuinites to come together during the troubles in the 80's in Northern Ireland was a magnificent acheivement

Don Curry was arguably at his absolute best beating Colin Jones, and at the time Curry was probably considered second only to Hagler was the world's best fighter.

Azumah Nelson was simply awesome beating Pat Cowdell (rumour is Pat is still trying to find his nose!).

Malinga did indeed get justice for the first Benn fight, where he was darn unlucky. But it still angers me that even in the pretty one sided second fight, Sugarboy only got the split nod.

As a sleeper, Edwin Rosario and Frankie Randall woke up a York Hall crowd one June 1985 Evening.

Molitor vs Hunter - both classy and brutal.

Was surprised that dude later lost to Caballero.

True, but then Bingham, Foster and Dodson were not a murderer's row of challengers. Bradley v Witter is one you could maybe throw into the hat as well.
