I think it's exactly the opposite, it's very difficult for a fighter to look himself in the eye and say to himself "time to call it quits before you end up a stepping stone". As I have said all along whilst he's convinced he can still do it, he will fight on. Whilst he could probably still beeat a lot of world class fighters out there, unfortunately he probably will have to take a couple of losses to lesser guys to persuade him to eventually call it quites.
So his career earnings are in the region of £25m to £40m as an estimate then even minus, the training fees, the private jets and big cars and big houses all around the world, then he does not have to worry about money any more.

So why fight on?

Even when you may still be good enough to beat most of the guys out there?

You still know within that you have lost it, after being humiliated against Pacman and before that Mayweather.

You also know you may lose against guys you are expected to beat, because its a cruel game.

I hope he does not do a Roy Jones on us.

I think his hospital visit is related to his psychological dilemma.

Am I past it?

Not sure he has any dilemma, sounds like he's leaning towards turning it in, but he doesn't have to make any decision yet, so he isn't going to

Joe did similar, said he'd have a think, did, and decided to quit

It'll be a while before we have a fighter who comes close to what Hatton's achieved, the excitement and interest he generated, the sheer scale of the Mayweather fight...

He's delusional. He'll think he's still capable of winning the "pound-for-pound title" (). In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if he decided to come back at MW or something with all the weight he's piled on

He's fighting on because there is still money to be made.

His punch resistence is gone, his marketability at the top level is on the wane, and his career is in its death throws.

Fighting on is not about 'pride' or any other subjective emotion you wish to attach to something that is obviously a money making exercise, to milk his loyal fans one more time (at the least).
I don't agree at all, if it was just about the money his mind would be already made up.
As it's not I believe he can't come to terms with the way he was destroyed in front of thousands of his fans.
It must weigh very heavily on him, pride may push him into another bout as it does to many boxers who've suffered a bad loss.

Pride makes people get up and fight on when badly hurt. He wants to prove he can still do what he can do well.
Your making out he's a money grabber in the world of boxing, when every single professional fighter is doing it for money.

What ever is wrong with Hatton I hope he gets well soon.

That's exactly my point. When you get to the stage of your career at which Ricky is at, its all about the money.

Pride is something that happens inside the ring.

He's been taken to hospital with chest pains.

I don't think this thread is the appropriate place to debate his career, p4p talk and the ducking of Junior Witter here lads FFS.

I wish him all the best.

Seems like his body has well and truly rebelled in recent times.

I never buy into this 'reliable source' lark on internet forums but it really wouldn't surprise me that much which is the sad thing.

He should never step into a boxing ring again.

I have come to like Hatton less and less with all his greed issues (Beer, curries and of course money) but I hope he is ok.
