Well there's the small matter of Calzaghe having 20 title defences and Brian Nielsen having absolutely none at all. So I wouldn't say they're too comparable.

Had Super Brian Nielsen hit the 50 undefeated mark, instead of 49 - he would have a very small case.

He did win bronze at the Olympics though in 1990, I believe. Dont think Joe was ever there.

Other than that - JC by a landslide.

yes he did win bronze. As far as compeition pound for pound their pretty even, with Calzhage having the slight edge coming off the lacy fight. Nielson did beat Witherspoon and Holmes, knocked out jeremy Williams and outboxed Orlin Norris. Not bad Id say.

You people truly amaze me at times.

Calzaghe dominated Eubank, Lacy, Woodhall, Starie, Sheika, Brewer, Veit, Mitchell and has a clear win over a focused Reid.

If you think Nielsen's resume is comparable. You know, why even bother?

Yes, I would go as far as saying he got better names. But the picture is painted; most of them were overthehill.

In terms of talent; JC by a landslide. Super-Brian did have something however ... I remember Savon made a fool out of him in the semi in O.G, but he did improve as a pro, but his technique was never top notch.

He never fought Savon.

He fought Balado twice. Lost both fights including the one in the Olympics. But he actually had Balado visibly shaken in their first encounter in Kings Cup in Thailand.

Balado was killed in an accident efter the Olympics.

Nielsen retired with an impressive 104-7 amateur record, however you cannot compare Nielsen with Calzaghe as a pro.

The quality of opponents as a pro is much better in the case of Calzaghe.

Eubank at that time in his career - B.

Veit, Sheika, Starie, Brewer - B-

Mitchell, Woodhall, Reid - B

Lacy - A-

And he DOMINATED all of them, save for Reid. 'Suck', sure.

I am fairly sure he faced Savon in the semi.... quite positive.

This is a stupid thread, Nielsen never beat anyone worth a damn when they were actually dangerous. One of the most protected fighters of recent time.

Savon competed in the heavyweight division.

Brian and Balado in the super heavyweight division.

Here is a clip from the semifinal:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Both fighters clowned a lot and Brian hit a lot of air

PS: Calzaghes WBO-title is worth nothing, when there is no mandatory defences.
