Too many to mention really but the one that really stands out is Nigel Benn v Gerald Mclellan. It had everything, not all of it good. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up at the time. If what happened to Mclellan didn't happen this would be rated as an all time great fight.

A fight that has remained in my in my mind for over 30 years is the first fight between Marvin Johnson and Matthew Franklin (later Matthew Saad Muhammad.) I haven't seen it since it was broadcast on the Wide World of Sports, but I recall it being an absolute slugfest, with Franklin pulling out a TKO win almost as dramatic as Corrales' rally against Castillo. At least that's how I remember it. Holmes/Norton is an often overlooked classic, broadcast live on network T.V. when the Heavyweight Title was still one of the biggest deals in sports. Leonard/Hearns I was very dramatic mega-fight that lived up to it's billing. Hagler/Hearns, too, of course. I love the first Pac/Marquez battle, just a classic. Benn/McClellan was a brutal battle, although very tragic. Ali/Frazier I and The Thrilla, of course. There have been so many great fights. Hell, the Williams/Martinez bout a couple of weeks ago was a corker.

Other than the Quiroga-Anifowoshe fight:
Evander Holyfield-Micheal Dokes (One of the best heavyweight fights ever) Mando Ramos-Sugar Ramos (This fight should of been FOTY 1970) Frankie Duarte-Albert Davila II (Two past prime fighters giving everthing they got for a title shot) Carlos Palomino-Mando Muniz I-II (Both of these fights were absolute wars of attrition) Orlando Canizales-Sergio Reyes I (Thought the decision should of gone the other way but it was still a great fight) Alejandro Gonzalez-Kevin Kelley (Very good slugfest) Edwin Rosario-Howard Davis Jr. (Excellent mesh of styles, Rosario's power against Howard's slick boxing) Simon Brown-Tyrone Trice (Great war) Jesse Benavides-Jesus Salud (Benavides' mixes his boxing skill with his newfound punching power to pound out a win over the tough Salud) Frankie Duarte-Jesus Salud (Two kamikazees meeting in the middle) Dwight Muhammad Qawi-James Scott (excellent fight between two great LHW's, strangley enough Scott had more sucess fighting Qawi then boxing him) Bobby Chacon-Danny Lopez (Two West Coast legends slug it out) |

1.Duran-Leonard I (that never changes)
2.Pacquiao-Morales I (my second choice often changes, but I watched this fight again this week for the first time in a few months, and even though my top man loses, it's just such a brilliant brilliant fight between two modern Gods!) |
