Default What do you guys think about "Juan Carlos Gomez"

His records seems pretty amazing.

Won 42 (KO 35)
+ lost 1 (KO 1) + drawn 0 = 44

Somehow - your math is off.

42+1=43 Where did the 44 come from?

However - that's a pretty impressive record - depending on the competition he had.

He has a "no contest" against Olive McCall

he's one of the best cruiserweight talents since holyfield. problem is he's too lazy and moved up to heavy. got startched by Diaz in the first because he came in unprepared. now he won't stay in shape.

Hsi record is misleading. It makes him out to be some kind of beat when he is really not something like the first 32 or so of those fights were at crusierweight. He has been very unimpressive when he has stepped up against recognizable competition.

I remember when he first started figthing in the states I read up on him and read somewhere that he beat Vitali in the amatuers, don't know if that's true or not.

Gomez was built to be a cruiser. He may be tall be he seems unequiped physically to be a top heavy. His power never joined the ride to heavyweight unfortunately. And his laziness has been a fatal mistake in the big hitting division.

Gomez can be a factor at heavyweight, but he must keep himself in tip-top condition so at least he has the stamina and speed. A lot of excess weight will defintely slow him down. He might be shocked to learn that his reflexes aint as fast as it used to be.

If Gomez brings always brings his best everytime out, a belt is a probability.

He has a lot of talent, but doesn't seem to be the most dedicated guy. With some focus and serious training, he can be a top 10 guy in the heavyweight division - maybe even a belt holder.

Yeah he does have alot of skills, but for some reason i dont feel like he really wants to fight anymore, like his not hungry anymore, i think he feels like he did enough already... and to me he hasent, cause he dosent have any big names under his wins, but if he does decide to train hard and be in really good shape, i think he has the potential to be a great champion against some of todays big names.

All depends on how much he wants it, but he is good.

Good skills, good speed, good chin...all currently wasted because he doesn't seem to have any drive or ambition to fight the best.

If he could get his act together he could be a handful, but he just seems to be cruising along out there without much direction.

Among the top cruiserweights of alltime in my opinion. A good heaveyweight may win a title but I don't think he will domanate.

I really agree. He will beat McCall next and McCall despite his age is on a nice comeback trail and in good shape, goes 12 rounds with no problems. If Gomez is serious and in good shape the smaller Top guys like Ibragimov, Maskaev and Chagaev would be no problem for him. He would never beat Wlad though, but he wants to fight him!!

Gomez has a glass chin. In his fight with Sam he spit his mouthpeice out to gain time every time he got hit. Then he gets blown out by a no body in about 10 secnds. Very soft.

Gomez isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. He can't handle his own money and isn't smart enough to even hire a money manager. He got into huge tax trouble with the Germans.

He then boards a plane trying to run away from German tax authorities and just walks into a gym in Florida and tries to sign up with a promotional company. The people he approaches had to remind him that he was already under contract with Universum and that just because he goes to another country that you can't void the contract.

I would feel sorry for him because he has so much talent except he also is a jerk who left his wife and children stranded with no money in Germany while he was seen partying his brains out on Southbeach in Miami.

He's a real piece of work who thought he deserved some big paydays just because he thought so.

great cruiser, but "cuban attitude" prevented him from doing anything at heavy.

COULD have been, but that's a statement you can't make because his German promoters wouldn't let him ever fight anyone to prove it.

The Cruiserweights of that era, Jirov, Gomez, and Johnny Nelson kept the division stagnant due to the fact that refused to take each other and unifty belts.

A real shame, because any combination of those three would have made for some interesting fights.

Gomez certainly had the potential to unify and be great at 190/200, but I consider his career a waste.
