Ali was a great fighter, but this idea that he was unbeatable just doesn't jive with the facts. He had a lot of bad habits that Lewis could potentially exploit. He tended to go straight back when backing up, he never had much of a body attack, he didn't have anywhere near the power Lewis had, and he tended to always pull Frazier head down, that certainly wouldn't work against the much bigger Lewis who would likely be throwing upper cuts in that situation. So I think while the younger quicker version of Ali might have been able to beat Lewis with his speed, I certainly don't think the past prime Ali would beat him. Ali's main attributes were speed and his ability to take a punch. If he looses the former, the latter only ensures he's around til the end. I'd also give other fighters, particular a prime Tyson and Holyfield, and perhaps Louis a reasonable chances to beat this version of Ali as well. Oh almost forgot about Holmes, he too would likely beat this version of Ali. Last edited by Vanboxingfan; 09-11-2007 at 08:08 PM. |

How many fighters can you list who actually floored Ali, particularly when he was in his prime? I counted maybe 4 times when Ali was down, and only one of them came in his prime to a hard puncher ( Frazier ) Two others came before he had peaked, while the 4th occured past his prime. And keep in mind, I'm talking professional ranks here. |
