Default Power 180-200 pounds

Who do you think had the best power in this weight range. Personally, I'm gonna go with Dempsey followed by Louis and Marciano. All of them caused a lot of damage with their punches. Louis and Dempsey were faster, and were both effective with short punches. Dempsey's number of first round knockouts place him at tops for me, even though I think Louis had better accuracy. They both could put down much larger opponents. I'm going to throw in Choynski, too. Jeffries, Johnson and Corbett all said his punch was vicious.

For pure one punch power Bob Satterfield might be a good choice.

Honestly, I think Marciano was the most powerful one-punch hitter south of 200 lbs.
Jersey Joe Walcott said he hit harder than Louis did.

Louis, then Dempsey, then Marciano. Schmeling is the 'darkhorse' here power-wise.

Schmeling needed literally tens of clean flush right hands to put Louis down, and then some more to put him for the count. His right hand is overrated.

Your right hand is overrated.

If Blackburn was alive, you could try telling this to him. What I said is what he told to journalists before their rematch, when they asked him what he thought about Schmeling's right hand. I can only agree with him watching the number of clean right crosses Schmeling hit Louis with during that fight, and Louis was put down only once before the 12th round. Other fighters who put Louis down needed one or just a few clean punches to do that. Certainly many other small heavyweight wouldn't need over a 50 clean flush right crosses to the jaw to put somebody for the count.

I believe the first left hook Dempsey floored Willard with may still be the hardest single punch ever recorded on film. In the third round, Jack's hook downstairs was launching Jess airborne, an excruciatingly painful looking hop from a hook to the shortribs.

Frank "Paddy" Slavin had underrated power IMO...

Doesn't Louis technically not count since he was over 200lbs.?

He fought at under 200 during his career, I think.

Circular logic.

You argue that Schmelings right hand was over rated because he needed a lot of punches to put Louis away but I could argue that it was because Louis had a good chin since nobody apart from Schmeling knocked him out anywhere close to his prime.

Interestingly Max Baer thought that Schmeling hit harder than Louis.

I thought you knew better than that, janitor. Obviously Baer said that because he was bitter for the beating he got from Louis. Always you have the "fighter A who I beat up hits harder than fighter B who beat me up" syndrome.
