had my first fight a few months ago at light heavyweight in front of about 300 people at a police benefit. Lost on a split decision - but feel like i was robbed malignaggi style. I got a few fights planned, this time at 165. i looked like a chubby 14 year old fighting my opponent at LHW... felt very weak comparitively to him. Anyways, glad theres some people here that lost their first fights as well... makes me a feel a little better.

3 Months.
I won all 3 rounds via descision, I stopped drinking soda was my only diet change, and did some running. Little pads, mostly shadowboxing, bag work, and some sparring(6 rounds a week).
Fight was alot easier and less nerve racking then sparring with my partners in the gym.

Trained for about 3-4 years on and off, overall it was probably 1-2yrs worth of training. Went into the fight very unfit, and I knew it too so I was planning on going for a KO in the 1st cos I knew I didnt have stamina for 3 rounds.

Knocked him down twice in first round and he was pretty much saved by the bell end of it, gave him standing 8 count in the 2nd but by then I was completely gassed out....there and then I knew I was the better fighter but that I might loose because I was too lazy to up my conditioning, blaming myself I even had flashes in my head trying to justify my loss already as not being too bad.

Made it to 3rd round, shortest 1minute rest ever I actually took an extra 5secs before I got off my stool, backing off, no energy for punches whatsoever, clinch when I could...I think he was trying to finish me seeing how tired I was so he kept running towards me, I countered left hook and stopped him.

TKO3

I trained like a madman with my coach who was doing all kinds of defensive drills and counters. That was pretty much my game, block and throw block and throw. Move position jab cross head movement jab jab move.

god it was repetitive but helpful.

Interesting to note that my first fights were so easy, my opponents came out like they were brawlers and just threw. When your a amateur in your first fights remain calm and cool.
Hey, are you from Brampton Ontario?

About a year before I was ready, was ready to fight then my coach died suddenly, which delayed me fighting by about 6 months, then lost my first three and went on a mini streak, now had about 30 fights, won alot of medals and been picked for Multi Nation tournaments

I had my first fight 4 weeks 2 nights a week after joining gym no sparring just heavy bag and a bit of pad work . I was very nervous going in to the fight and just b4 the fight started i looked to my trainer for some last minutes instructions and he told me that he was talking to the other guys trainer and it turned out he already had a few fights and was doing it for a lot longer then me and that he was stronger , faster and and a better fighter then me and that I should just try my best and cover up not the words of encouragement I was looking for i barely trow a punch but when I did he just moved and countered bacteria with a compo I spent the round just following him around and covering up when he trow i wasn't hurt I just didn't know what to do i felt out of my depth . At the end of the first round i went to my corner not knowing what to do just panicking he told me he didn't know what to say and that he didn't think i could do it but asked me did I want to continue of course I said yes I went out same thing happened just followed him around trowing the odd jab then he slip and trow combo then half way through the round my trainer stop it I felt like **** the following week he put me in the ring for some sparring but my confidence was shot and I couldn't fight back . To this day I'm still annoyed with myself that I wimped out and didn't give it my all

Know the fundamentals before you go into the ring. Defence, footwork, balance, a jab and fitness are what is required. The guys fighting after a few months, fair play to you, but I don't believe you can become fundamentally sound in that time. The next most important thing for your first fight is good matchmaking.
