Default Got my first fight scheduled

So I got my first fight scheduled for middle of July. Pretty excited and feel pretty good conditioning wise. Defense still needs work, but I feel confident I can go out there (guy im vs has 0 fights, too) and put up a good fight. Jab is good and my right hand is coming along. Still working on my hook/uppercut. My hook has power if it connects, but too slow right now. Big thing im nervous about is my body just shutting down from nerves. I have anxiety and hate being the center of attention. I guess everyone is like this there first fight, but I hope I don't get so nervous I mentally shut down and lose focus. Any tips? Between getting ready for fight and right before? I'll be fighting 201 btw.

I'm a naturally timid person too.
But surprisingly I am able to get my nerves and emotions under control most of the time.

Heck, i've been nervous before - but during my first fight, I was the calmest that I can remember ever. Which is strange, cuz that's usually when people are the most nervous. Someone told me before my fight to "just have fun". And that's exactly what I did.
I felt pretty secure fighting a novice - knowing that he would never box as well, or hit as hard as anyone i had sparred with at that point.

God luck and let us know how it goes.

I've got my 12th fight scheduled for mid July too. I'm determined to bring home another win.

Meditate, go over it in your head a thousand times before fight night.

Don't allow a single drops worth of negative thoughts in your mind.

Imagine yourself winning in every possible dominant way.

Thanks guys.

I have a question though about amateur weight classes. so im fighting 201. Not sure if that's super or regular HW. Im confused how the classes work. Like when looking up them it says LHW is 178, HW 201, SHW 201+.

So does that mean LHW is 178-200, HW just 201?

Just have fun with it and enjoy it, whether you win or lose you will be still respected after the fight for going up on the ring.

For me I lost my first fight because I was too damn nervous, forgot a lot of stuff that I usually do in sparring. But if you are calm and just think of it like a sparring with a crowd you'll do good. GOOD LUCK.

What if your "body shuts down"? Nothing will happen if you lose. For beggining keep it simple, use jab and right hand. Keep your hands high, remember to throw punches and not only defend from incoming punches. Good luck and have fun.

just jab jab jab, if he gets on you, clinch. for first fights, id just try to box clever and simple. jab jab jab, move move and grab. cant go wrong with that technique, if your both novices anyway.

Well, this Sat. is almost here.

Must say im getting more nervous lol. What do I do if right after bell rings he starts charging at me with haymakers? Just evade with footwork and not get tense? I guess I just have this fear of having no idea who im stepping into the ring with.

Fear of the unknown is the hardest part of boxing. Dont worry you are prepared. you will be fine. If he rushes at you meet him with a right hand or step to the side and ole him

also hes just as anxious as you are

It's this guys first fight aswell yeah? If he comes out at you charging throwing hayemakers chances are he's doing it cause he is nervous as his corner won't of told him to do that.

In my first fight this is exactly what happened to me the bloke came at me like a lunatic I don't know how to upload videos or I could show you. It was a surreal Experiance all I did was cover up and move and tried grabbing hold when I could. He did this for the full first round ill be honest I started to panic because he didnt seem like he was going to slow down.

Anyway by the 2nd he had blown himself right out and I won the last two rounds. It was one of the best Experiances of my life your going to have the time of your life in there

Best of luck. Everybody without exception has fear of the kind you describe. My brother who has full blown autistic tendencies performs at his best in sports competitions in front of a crowd, rather than in training with a few people watching.

It is an exciting time of your life and boxing career, so enjoy it and take it as it comes. Everyone will be shit scared, remember that, including your opponent. Go and enjoy yourself. Before the fight will probably be a wholly uncomfortable feeling and you will wonder why you bother at all, you will possibly feel this right after the fight whether you win or lose - but the moments during and how you feel the next day looking back will tell you how you truly feel.

It is great character building to willingly put yourself in a position that you know will make you uncomfortable.

Yeah, it's his first as well.

So if he comes charging, just stay calm and move around and shoot the jab? Im def. not going to come out 1st round and go berzerk.
