Default George Foreman v Joe Bugner 1977

Foreman and Bugner fought their losing battles against Jimmy Young and Ron Lyle, respectively within days of each other back in '77. The talk was that if they had both come through,a fight between the two would take place. It would have been a smart fight for both men. George Foreman may have looked upon Bugner as the perfect final tune up for a proposed rematch with Muhammad Ali. Joe needed a convincing victory over a Foreman or a Norton to credibly demand a third Ali fight. This match up could have been more of a contest than most people think. If Bugner had been in one of his up for it frame of minds,I can see him shading the early rounds with his jab, with Foreman gaining ground by the half-way mark. It would last the full 10 rounds with a hurt Joe Bugner hanging on towards the end. Foreman by unanimous decision.

Bugner could take a punch but he was so lazy. Foreman would stop him. As it's post Ali, I say around the 5th round.

Bugner was deceptively quick of hand and foot and that could cause Foreman slight trouble but when all said and done Bugner is too left hand orientated to keep someone like Foreman off him, Bugner did not let the right go enough.

The Foreman who fought Jimmy Young was AWFUL. I dont know, if Young can beat Foreman I'm not going to rule out Bugner's chances.

"Aussie" Joe was a good survivalist..I dont think he beats Foreman but its not crazy to suggest he goes the rounds with him.

Indeed. He was tough as Hell and could spoil when he wanted too. He's a 'British' fighter in a lot of people's eyes

I know, I thinks it kinda funny people call him Aussie Joe..but he was a colourful character down here for a while.

He gets my respect because he gave it to Russell Crowe calling him a little girl or something like that.

He's definitely an Aussie now.
Is Hungarian by birth though, and until he was about 6 years old.

Foreman would've stopped Bugner late, for Joe would give him a bit of a battle.George would have to work for it.
