Default Who had a better chance of beating Roy Jones Jr?

Nigel Benn or Chris Eubank? Prime on prime, super middleweight. Give reasons.

Benn. Eubank isn't beating RJJ because Jones basically does everything that Eubank does better. When an genuinely inferior fighter is taking on a superior one I see him as having two choices - he must slow the action down to a crawl with a view to winning the minimal exchanges or he must make the action as volitile as possible in the hope of creating a give and take encounter where anyone can win it. Benn has the power/aggression/borderline stupidity to make the second plan work, although it's a long shot. But Eubank's superior reactions, timing, counter-punching which would work wonders against most guys in keeping witht he first plan are rendered uselss by Jones superiority. And although he does actually have the tools to attempt the second plan, he doesn't have that hell and high water attitude that Benn does.

I give Benn the proverbial punchers chance and Eubank no chance at all, peak for peak.

Pre Watson Eubank has a punchers chance too but I don't think either would beat a prime RJJ. Benn wouldd have the better chance though due to his more aggressive style.

Stylistically Benn probably has the best chance, but I'd still make Jones Jr a definite favourite against either of 'em.

I think both Benn and Eubank would have been thoroughly outclassed and taken apart by RJJ. What's annoying though is he never fought either of them. Fair enough Eubank has admitted he wanted no part of Jones, but the foolish Benn was desperate to get Roy in the ring with him. After the McClellan fight this was proposed but Jones never made any moves to make the fight. I think RJJ was a little scared of Benn after the McClellan tragedy. Which I could never understand because he would have demolished Benn.

no matter how good you are, benn is the sort of opponent any guy would be scared of getting in the ring with.

i have however heard conflicting stories about why benn-jones jr never happened.

I doubt either guy would have beaten RJJ but Benn always has a chance due to his punch if he connects its over. Its a shame the fights never happened I know Benn wanted it, even Toney vs these two or Nunn a lot of great fights could have been made but unfortunately didn't.

Ever since 1995 when he saw his old amateur conqueror Gerald McClellan battered into senseless blindness by Nigel Benn. Jones has been haunted by it. So he chose to carry fighters in those 1 sided exhibitions to avoid any risk himself.

i've also heard talk of how benn turned down his biggest ever pay day to fight jones from some respectable posters on the general board. although apparently benn said at a recent after dinner talk that he never recieved an offer from roy and was suprised by this as he says roy would have battered him.

Roy would have beaten both, Benn by late-round TKO and Eubank by a very wide UD. Both would have had a similiar chance, a very slight puncher's chance, but back in those days Roy could take a shot so it was very slim.

Benn was a fearless sadist, he would have loved to fight Jones. He actually knew he'd lose but still wanted the fight just so he could say he'd fought the very best fighter of his time. I remember watching an interview with Benn where he pleads on camera to fight Jones saying he knows he'll probably get beat but he doesn't mind being 2nd to RJJ.

Jones on the other hand did not want the fight. In a separate interview, Roy says how McClellan was unwise to go into the fight with Benn with so much over confidence. Jones said something like "Benn had a string of 22 consecutive KO victories, that is very hard to achieve, you can not underestimate a guy like that by showing no respect for his power"

See Benn's fight with Watson for example of what Jones would have done to Benn, but he'd need no more than 2 or 3 rounds to stop Benn. Eubank might give him more troubles, being a counter-puncher.

Both lose to Jones, but I give Benn the greater chance due to his power and tenacity.

I'm talking about fighting off the ropes. Jones was a couple of classes above Watson in both defense and offense, and was a harder puncher. If Watson fight is not enough to persuade you, see also Benn vs Reggie Miller, who also fought off the ropes and had Benn badly hurt, but got too careless trying to finish him, similar to Logan.

jones has never showed the bottle of watson, to gain an early ko over benn. i see jones beating them both on point, but it would be a struggle

the mike mccallum of the early 90's had the best chance of beating jones
