Default Premature/early world title shots...

Name fighters who have been handed a world title shot very early in their career. Did it help or hinder there career in the long-run?

Should fighters avoid an early title shot and get well-schooled in the sweet science before taking the step up? Or should they take the shot when they get the chance?

Witters early title shot didn't really do him any favours.

If you count it as a 'world title' (more like one of the WBA's gimmicks), Ortiz certainly didn't come out of the Maidana fight very well.

Sometimes it helps sometimes it backfires badly, an early loss in a career at world title level also depends how they performed if they loose. Worked out a good gamble for Robin Reid against Nardiello. Others arent so fortunate.

Vargas won a light middleweight title in his 15th fight, beat some very good opponents and was on the verge of becoming a huge star. Then he ran into Felix Trinidad.

Shumenov is surely a shout for premature as well. I'm not saying he isn't good enough but 'premature' would describe his title shot after only 9 fights!

How about Leon Spinks he had about 7 fights and then beat Ali to claim the title, however what happened to him after that? Check the losses, why did he lose so many after that?
