Alright fellas? Im new to these forums and to be honest ive been a bit put off posting on these things by some of the madness that occurs in the US Forum! Anyway, was just wondering if many of you had an opinion on Georgie Smith, think he was a light welter, welter weight? Would be interested in hearing them, I remember in the late 90s he scored some very big knockout wins. Cheers

Yeah thats the lad, I didnt ktnow he got into trouble with drugs, I was wondering what had happened to him like, thanks for that!

Vange: Boxer could face murder charge

Former boxing champion Georgie Smith could face a murder charge after a 72-year-old man he beat up died.


John Wilmott, who suffered from Alzheimers, never recovered from the beating he received eight months ago and died in hospital on Saturday.

Smith, 30, from Goldings Crescent, Vange, was found guilty by a jury at Southend Crown Court last month of causing Mr Wilmott grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for six years.

The former welterweight boxing champion, who once held the IBO Intercontinental Welterweight title, may now face further charges if it is found his victim died as a result of the injuries inflicted by him.

The violent attack, which took place outside the Barge pub in High Road, Vange, left Mr Wilmott blinded in the right eye.

Any decision to bring new charges against Smith would be taken by the Crown Prosecution Service following the findings of a post mortem and inquest.

A spokesman for the CPS said under the Law Reform (Year and a Day) Amendment Act 1996, a person could be re-indicted for a more serious charge, dependent on a coroner's report.

Yeah i remember him. He weren't nothing special and he was a thug and a scumbag. Southern area title level fighter....had a dig so could go a bit beyond that to domestic level but as his record suggests he got beat when he stepped up to decent level.

think he fought out of Basildon. Sold shit loads of tickets for Barry Hearn shows and was always on the undercard of Delaney brother shows. Good crowd pleaser type. Like some already said, he was decent at Area title level. Then drugs took over i think.
