I think having a great variety of boxers in the heavyweight division makes it more interesting. This can mean variation in size, style and the looks of a boxer, where of course having a variety of heavyweights of different races will contribute to that. I guess this is one reason why people get bored with the division being dominated by mostly black boxers, like it was a while ago and start talking about a great white hope, or like now, when it´s mostly ruled by white boxers and there´s talk of a great black hope. It´s not so different from interest around Valuev, just because he´s so different in the way how he´s bigger than the other fighters.

I also think people of a certain race might relate more to a boxer of the same race. This isn´t the case for me though, but I could see how I´d root for a boxer who somehow belonged to the same group as I do. For example, since I´m Scandinavian, I could see how I would have gotten excited about Ingemar Johanson winning the title. Boxing might in that way be more popular if there are boxers from more ethnicities, groups and areas who are successful, since there will be a broader range of people to root for "their" boxer.

That's said about other athletes too. Hell, maybe he is gay. Is that so important? And don't say I'm overly pro gay - because I am not. Re nude pix w/his bro. Why is this so gay? You realize that half of the population are of the female variety (thank gawd) Maybe they're intended mostly fo them. If some gay guys get a kick out of them, so what?

I just hate the fact that people give this guy so much credit for beating class C opposition as a champ, when the best oppenent he has beat is a boxing banker who loves tap dancing. My question to you is why think Wlad is such an amazing champ?
This is the old dis the opposition to dis the man argument. Lame. If you think he's beaten C class fighters then we have nothing to discuss. When was this golden age of HWs? The 70s?

Forget the fading Ali & Frazier, I've seen posters say that the Quarrys, Lyles, and Shavers could "clean out" todays HWs The only thing they'd need cleaned out would be the cobwebs in their brains after getting KTFO from recent/todays HWs.

I'll probably repeat my argments for Wlad sooner or later - I just gave a hint above.

Feiti, careful your post #68 contained too much common sense. You see for many ESBers, the HW champs is supposed to be from one country and mainly one racial group. Else it's

The fighters of the 70s and 90s were better than the fighters of now you would have to be blind not to see that. You cant tell me brewster or Austin are better than grade C fighters, I will say that brock may be a C+ but no better than that.

If Peter would happen to lose, the heavywieght division is in more trouble than I thought.
the heavyweight division is fine, but i hope for your sake that peter wins, because i wouldn't want to see you cry...

There are several black American heavyweights that are talented
and have the potential to move up the ranks:

1) Alonzo Butler 26-0-1, good power, hard jab, needs more experience.

2) Eric Boose 12-1-1, power puncher!!!

3) Kevin Johnson 16-0-1, has height, reach, speed, excellent jab.

4) Chazz Witherspoon, 19-0-0, very good boxing fundamentals, good power.

Of these four, I would say that Johnson and Witherspoon are the two
that will make their move in 2008.

Butler and Boose have talent, but I feel that they need a bit more
experience (fights)!!!

Most fans picking Peter picked Rahman over Oleg in their rematch I'm sure and for the exact same reasons stated here.
If Oleg avoids Peter's rabbit punches, the over confident, over trained Peter (8 weeks training) is going to drop in the late rnds same as Rahman did.
I know y'all think I'm going out on a limb but I bet Oleg by late rnd TKO if he avoids illegal rabbit punch.
I'm calling the bookie now

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will borrow some steroids from Roid Jones and get into the Heavyweight division and destroy everyone. This will put a new meaning to P4P champ and hopefully satisfy your obsession of the GREAT BLACK HOPE.
