I've got this book called Lords of the Ring, the best fighters since 1950. I was re-reading the bit on Monzon kast night, it says that Mickey Rourke visited him in jail, and he thought it would be good to spar Monzon, and get some photos of it. Apparently Monzon knocked him out.
I didn't even know you could spar in jail! |

Interesting thread Teeto. Red Cobra's comments were very insightful and interesting...good read.
Has anyone else noticed the facial similarity between Monzon and Richard Ramirez? |

I haven't noticed until now that, yes, Monzon and Richard Ramirez DO look alike. Interestingly enough both murderers. I'm not sure if a citizens' arrest would be effective against Monzon, as he might KO all of them!
In a strange way, Monzon also reminds me a lot of Lurch, from the "Addams Family". Yes, I must admit King Carlos fascinates me as well. For me it's fun to watch the super-aggressive types like Hagler and Tony Ayala, but, as someone said, Monzon was the King of Cool. Carlos was a patient stalker, and could control the pace of a fight. He basically kept the opponent at arm's length. When they did get close enough, Carlos had good enough inside skills to tie up the opponent. Maybe boring to many, given his slowness, but Carlos always won. Interesting how King Carlos fought in the same era that the actual King of Cool, Steve McQueen, was the top action hero. Nothing quite like the 60's-70's, they were the best. |

Thanks a lot, i'm watching Monzon-Benvenuti 1 right now as it is. Just watched the English 'title' fight between John McDermott and Tyson Fury, but some Monzon is in order now.
