I think Earnie had more Boxing ability than hes given credit for, he actually had a good snapping jab and was pretty sharp when he wanted to.
If he keeps Oscar on the outside of his 80" reach and boxes him I give him a good chance, if he tries to outslug him he'll be stopped. I think its closer than the poll would make you think but I'd lean towards Oscar by a late stoppage. |

Earnie rarely boxed as you suggest and didnt have the stamina for a long fight against Bonavena. Even at his worst Bonavena made you work hard for a victory. Thats poison to a guy like Shavers.

I'll even go as far as to say GREAT power. The problem was in his inability to apply it. He was a hard puncher, but not a great finisher. He floored and at least hurt a large percentage of the men he fought. He just couldn't close the deal against the ranked fighters. None of them ever questioned his power, though.
