Arguello's weaker points (With respect to his great strengths and abilities) fall right into Duran's strengths and his strengths are well negated by Duran's skillset and composition. He would get carved up IMO while obviously having a few moments due to his sheer greatness.

Let me say i am not running down Arguello, huge fan here but his lesser points, so very hard to be taken advantage of by mere mortals have no such luck here.

Alexis was always known for being quite stiff, methodical and a wee bit ponderous against some. Duran by comparison is one of the most natural and comfortable boxers to ever lace a glove. He would be one of the few with the ability (brilliance working his way in, great infighting, great defense, two handed power and variety, ability to counter Arguello's average speed) to severely pressure Arguello on a consistent basis.

I think Alexis gets beaten to the punch and is a step behind in this one much of the time, assuming Duran is 100% firing and peaked. His love of controlling the pace and tempo of his fights with a measured patient start will be smashed, basically.

Look for Duran to pressure and test early, soaking up anything he has to and generally make Alexis look a little awkward. I see a stoppage around the 8-10 round mark. Alexis' ATG power can't help him in this one. Duran at his best has soaked up big blows from much bigger men.

Bad matchup, i just can't see it any other way.
Good post, agree entirely. Pretty much the worst matchup for anyone at 135, and for Arguello, one of the worst opponents I can think of for him at any weight. He he has a boxer causing him worries whilst beating the shit out of him.

Phew, glad someone agreed. Remember, Duran is one smooth fukker when he wants to box and stand off a little too. Tho super effective Alexis was far more s+tiff and methodical. It will be evident here.

I love Alexis, but Roberto is slightly on a different level than Alexis, and Arguello would find this out real quick.Roberto would stop Alexis in 13 rounds, with Duran scoring a couple of knockdowns to force a stoppage.

I couldnt pick a winner here but Duran would fight whereas Fernandez only ran. Ferandez never beat Arguello, another myth
