Yes, I finally went to one. Turns out there was one locally that had been opened for a few months. I went there just hoping to see what it was like and I ended up doing the training for it. I must've ran 4 or 5 miles in total for them today. I did some freeweight technique and pushup work(where I couldn't go down) because I showed up early. Then I got to do heavybag work, which my trainer was impressed by. He and the pro boxer there says I got a good jab and a good right hand. I know I need to learn better defense though. I did the swaybag also for hand eye coordination. They told me I did things too hard though, like punching too fast with too much power on things that should be light. I did some light sparring with a 1-0 amateur there and the pro fighter there. It was a good experience and I got tagged with a couple punches but I wasn't bothered by it. I'm coming back there Thursday and I may do some sparring then and I will also try to start a 3 day training rotation for boxing next week.
The trainer and the pro there are impressed by me already and I think they're going to let me spar Monday. I just have to pay the 65 $ for USA Boxing. It's a very small gym with only a few fighters. I'm happy I finally have found a gym to train at and I'll be getting amateur fights soon also. |

It was probablly more of timing sparring to get him comfertable. I had to work my way into any kind of sparring at my old boxing gym but at my MMA gym even on your first day they let you do some really light agian timing like sparring in Muay Thai. I think it should help alittle when its time to go into hard sparring so he doesnt have that fear inside which most of us do.

Go easy on the bags work on technique instead of trying to kill the bag. the power will come, right now is the best time to learn technique because when your in the ring sparring your going to be in there with people that demand respect and all wont fall to your power. |
