At jw id say that Chavez stops him late. At welter Chavez was not at his best however i think he pulls this out by a razor close decision. Mcgirt outboxes Chavez until the mid rounds until Chavez slows him down and pulls it out in the late rounds to edge out Buddy

Like anarci said, JCC was not at his best at ww, so still very very good. McGirt was naturally bigger and a very good boxer. I go with Buddy edging Chavez in a very close decision. McGirt takes the first half of the fight, outboxing Chavez while Chavez will get to him the more the fight goes on. Would this one go over 15 it would be a TKO for Chavez but over 12 McGirt survives and rescues his early leat to a close UD/MD/SD.
Chavez was more or less a 15 round fighter and I think the 12 round llimit took away some of his efficiency. Great fighter! |

Are we to assume Chavez comes in at 142 and McGirt at 147? That's quite a big size advantage for Buddy. Even without the use of his left hook that he used to such good effect against Brown, McGirt might be a little too big for Chavez to impose himself on. Nevertheless Chavez's pressure would still be pretty hard to cope with and it would be a rather close fight, even if I would slightly favour McGirt in those circumstances. At a catchweight I lean towards Chavez.

Why do you say that? McGirt was famed for having a pretty good left hook at one time. He blasted out Howard Davis in a single round, and he had both Whitaker and Brown on the deck. |

The post says 93 and Chavez still looked pretty good in dominating Haugen and Terrance ALi. Mcgirt might have been a better pure boxer than Randall, but Randall was good at everything Hit harder, better chin, and his boxing ability was still very good.Mcgirt had better defense.

Mcgirt was a good puncher at Jr welter but he never knocked out any one of note at Welterweight.Davis was past his prime and never had a good chin even in his prime. Watch these guys fight and you can tell the diffrence in power. Mcgirt would not be able to Hurt or stun Chavez with his best shots. Unlike Randall.

After wathing McGirt defeat Genaro Leon on USA's Tuesday Night Fights, It appeared as though Buddy's body was beginning to decline.
McGirt looked good in his next bout against Whitaker, but the lack of left hooks showed his shoulder was a problem. I am assuming this is the McGirt being suggested as Chavez' opponent. McGirt looked solid at 147, but was not particularly powerful. Chavez' punch may appear stronger. Whitaker hit Chavez with a lot of clean punches, and made Chavez miss a lot. I don't think McGirt would be as successful. Remember, this is when Chavez was undefeated, and people were watching to see if he would make it to 100 wins before losing. Pernell Whitaker found out how difficult it was to get an official decision win over Chavez at that time. I think McGirt makes it interesting, would make Chavez reluctant to fight again at 147, but lose a competitive decision. |
