Default Fear of fighting

Has this ever happened to you? Even though you guys box, there are times you still have fears of fighting outside the ring? When trouble escalates, you simply walk away? Happened to me a couple of times and sometimes I feel like a *****. I know I can take them yet sometimes I feel bad. I feel as if I wimped out.

I don't know much about the laws, but I know if you box and that comes out after you injure someone, you're ****ed.

I don't box, but I've been told I have a hard punch (for an average guy) and if I hit someone it'll result in me getting done for assault. But for a boxer, you know your abilities, you'll be done for assault, possibly lose your rights to box and possibly go to prison for a while. So, is it really worth it?

This is just the kinda thing I've read on other forums, so don't know if it's all 100% true.

It only takes a well placed punch or the guy hitting his head on the way down and you could get done for murder. That's why I always avoid fights.

I don't know about a fear of fighting....I mean, I'm too confident in my skills for that....but there is nervousness, I guess. but that goes away right when you get into the fight.

Walking away, if possible, is the most sensical thing to do. There is a good chance they have a weapon, or friends to help him out, which can lead to serious injury or death. I only fight in the street as a last resort, even if you win, if you seriously hurt the guy your life will never be the same. I've been in the emergency room a few times with broken nose, fingers, and in one case jaw, thinking I could've been home scratching my balls watchin tellie instead of bleeding all over the waiting room for 3 hours.

i think it goes through everybodies head, so don't feel as if it is just u...for the law part; u will be in trouble if u sign off saying that your hands r lethal. after ur training for around 3 months or so, or if ur in ne martial art for a certain amount of time and move up in the rankings high enough, they will make u sign a paper saying ur hands r lethal, this is when u will get into the more trouble, even possibly attempted murder. as far as u just training, u won't get in ne extra trouble, every guy and even probably girl when lil used to wrestle/fight w/ their friends all the time (rough housing) part of life

Everybody gets a little scared before they fight, its your mind telling your body something bads about to happen. Boxing does give the edge in a street fight, but as I learned the hard way 80% of the time the fight will go to the ground were Im not as skilled. I learned couple things from getting into my fair share of street fighting, 1. Always get the first punch in on your oppenent its usually the cleanest hardest punch your going to throw during the fight, besides most of the time the guy your fighting never sees it coming. 2. As a boxer never get in close during a street fight, because if your oppenent gets a hold of you your weapons which are your fists are disabled. As the posters before me already said fist fighting is nothing but trouble, its best just to try and be cool with people and not open your mouth unless your your looking to fight.

I don't think its so much the fear of actully fighting but the fact that a street fight is unpedictable and gives you that sence of insecurity, as opposed to inside the ring. Street fighting can get you in trouble with the law, suriously hurt or killed for that matter.

You may be comfortable fighting in a ring, but Sun Tzu says 'never go to war in someone else's territory' there are too many unusual situations and factors outside the ring.
'get the enemy to fight your fight, not his'. And 'dont get into war unless you stand to GAIN something from it -Pride is your worst enemy and it can be used to lure you into battle'.

Walking away is not a bad idea. I know one guy who screwed up a promising professional career because he got into a streetfight and had one of his eyes gouged out. Fights with no rules can get very ugly.

Good advice above. There is one thing in common from street fights that have been brought to me (even minding my own business and everything) - there is generally alcohol involved. For some reason everyone is Mike Tyson once they get a dozen beers in them. Best to just walk away because as people already stated: if you win you could face assult charges/jail time. If you lose you could end up seriously hurt or dead. Kind of a lose-lose situation there. I have walked away from many streetfights so don't feel bad because you are doing the right thing.

boxers that street fight **** up there career genrally. katsidis wasnt even allowed to fight in the US for a wile coz he had got in trouble with the law for defending himself against someone. if a boxer is fighting on the street, weather its self defence or not, we ussaly get in shit.

I've always tried to avoid street fights for the fact that I know what I'm capable of and I don't feel the need to prove it to a bunch of losers in the street.
But then there are the times where it's unavoidable no matter how passive you are. Still, no matter how many fights I've had in the ring I still always get nervous right before it starts, but the moment that first punch it thrown, it all goes away.

Also and this is fact, that even if you are a trained fighter, either pro or amateur; you cannot get charged with assault with deadly weapon if you get into a street fight. You might still get charged with assault, but that's if your even caught, most street fights end quick and are with people you don't know.
Last time a boxer got charged with that was in like the 1950's and since then they don't do it anymore for some legal reasons.
