Default Does anyone drive an hour or more to train?

Im looking to compete in some amateur boxing tournaments, but the closest boxing gyms are a minimum of 70 miles away from where I live. Does anyone here drive that far to train or know anyone that does and competes? I have a good double end bag, heavy bag with an uppercut donut, and a speed bag setup in my garage so I was thinking about just driving to one of those gyms once a week for some sparring if they will let me do that. I trained mma for a couple years since there werent any boxing gyms nearby but want to just box from now on. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

I have to drive 1.5 hours one way to spar. It can be done. If you have a good relationship with the club there, you could make it work.
Show up once a week (and more when you can) Be sure to get homework to work on while you train by yourself and be super mindful of doing things correctly when you are alone.
It's not ideal but it's better than nothing. If you can, get someone to sign up and train with you. It's always helpful to have a set of eyes on you to make sure you are practicing correctly and it adds motivation.
Good luck.

A friend of mine used to (she's at a different gym now and I'm not sure how long she travels) drive 45 minutes each way (longer in the winter) to the gym four or five days per week She is 2x national champion.

It takes me between 20 and 40 minutes to reach the gym, depending on the wind

I sit on the bus for about an hour at leasteach way which doesn't really bother me because at least I'm not no the move and my mind is free to wonder, the bus also goes directly from where I stay to litterally the door step of the boxing club.

My last club was more difficult because I used to have to get two trains there plus walking, it was a pain in the arse, especially in the winter. I usually got a lift home on the way back which only took about 40 mins but sometimes I would get the train back and would have to change three times which took up to two hours. Murder, especially when you ain't had ur tea.

Post Re: Does anyone drive an hour or more to train?

Hi all...I now live in South Carolina and I am looking to find a gym or trainer that would work with me to teach me to box. I am serious in whatever I undertake. I have an athletic background and I am highly motivated and disciplined. I am willing to travel. I need to work during the day of course! Any help would be appreciated. I know my options may be limited here.
