Default Guess that Bert Cooper opponent

ok boxing experts,

help me out, early in his career Bert Cooper fought some Mexican or Latino guy that was basically supposed to be a stepping stone for the up and coming Cooper.

Bert is slowly winning the fight little by little until finally in the later rounds Cooper lands his left hook and floors this supposed can. Shockingly this dude gets up staggering and looks very angry. Everyone assumes the fight is basically over. Fight re-starts and Cooper moves in and tags this no-namer hard but instead of going down, this time he spits out his mouth piece while staring at Cooper, beckons him to go mano e mano and with no mouthpiece that's exactly what happens for the next two rounds. This no-name guy ends up tagging and hurting Cooper, then Cooper while staggered hurts this fella back, then it goes back and forth for the next round and a half whereby they keep trading shots nearly knocking each other out numerous times until finally Cooper takes him out by the skin of his teeth.

One of the best few rounds i have ever seen.

Name the No Name fighter ???

Sounds like a good fight. Never saw it but reading through boxrec maybe it was Oscar Holman, was a late stoppage and Holman went the distance with some tough guys. Maybe it was him?

Yeah, its crazy really. I was big on Holyfield and wanted to see some more Cooper fights because of their war. So I watched this one, but I did not expect this!

I guess Hernandez went in to the fight knowing that he would and should loose and never really tried. Then Cooper clocked him and he got ****ed. Great that you brought it up! Hernandez deserves credit for rising to occasion.

Hernandez was one of George Foreman's victims early in his comeback. I think Hernandez was a tough guy. He was a smallish heavyweight which was the type George fought more often than not early in his comeback. Too say George's matchmaking in his comeback was careful would be an understatement.

It says on box rec that poor Hernandez died at age 36 in 1998. Poor Guy must have been too darn tough for his own good. Right after the Cooper fight Carlos fought Razor Ruddock over seven rounds. That had to be tough. Apparently Hernandez was disqualified for pushing Ruddock over then shoving the ref who tried to restrain him. After that he got 245Lb worth if Foreman pounding on him.

I was doing some research on boxrec and found that journeyman Ken Lakusta who was around in the 80s and 90s fought:

Foreman
Ruddock
Morrison
Bruno
Tua

Thats some of the biggest heavyweight punchers of all time!

(He also fought Dokes, Holmes, Botha,Coetzer)

Apparently it was Ken Lacusta who damaged Pinklon Thomas's eye in sparring. A detached retina I think. Kept him out of the ring while champion.
