Ken Buchanan W10 Frankie Otero
Buchanan 1,3,5,6,7(10- Otero 2,4 I had it even after 4 rounds then gave Buchanan the last 6 rounds (two point difference in the 7th with a knockdown). Otero looked pretty good in the first 4 rounds but Buchanan's superior motor took over from there. Buchanan set a high pace and Otero couldn't maintain his sharpness throughout the fight like Ken did. Buchanan's weight was reported as 132 1/4. I thought he looked damn good this light and could've made a hellacious 130lber. Otero reminded me of Johnny "Dancing Machine" Carter (Carter specifically against Jeff Chandler and Oscar Muniz) in that he looked like a world beater for 3 or 4 rounds but could not remain sharp at pace and didn't seem to have the guile to change or dictate the tempo of the fight. |

Wilfredo Benitez vs Bruce Curry I
Benitez 2,7,8,10 Curry 1,4,5,6,9 3rd even - Benitez was carrying the round then badly hurt at the end. I had it 96-92 Curry but unfortunately the scoring was just by rounds. What was up with Benitez? he looked terrible. Any back story to this one? Maybe Benitez trained two days or had 3 whores in his room the night before? Credit to Curry but he wasn't in Benitez's league. |

Elorde vs Rivas 2.
Nice patient performance by elorde. His left is like a lazer and it'd be great seeing him vs pacman at sfw with the battle of the southpaw lefts. hard to be overly thrilled considering the quality of the opponent and the way in which he lost twice to ortiz. but still, it was good imo. |

I started the post about 6 hours and then left the house and just returned and submitted it. What I'm saying is that of the prime footage we have of Elorde, there's him beating this guy and losing to Ortiz. There's not much to thrill over because this guy wasn't that good and Ortiz beat him. I'm basically saying that I assume he's better than the available footage indicates but it's hard to say. |

There's footage of him against Saddler as well. He was winning that fight prior to the cuts stoppage. I forget which one it was and it's been a while since I've watched it, but he was ahead on all cards and was definitely doing the better offensive work. Until Saddler got his dirty paws on him, anyway.

Fenech v Payakaroon
Really good display by Jeff. He walked into a few too many shots for my liking but overall it's a really good display or wearing your opponent down, even one who ran as much as payakaroon did. When I read the fight description of the ko I was fearing some bs stoppage and so was relieved when I saw payak crumble in a heap under a relentless assualt (that makes me sound a bit weird impressive. Not as defensively sound as an armstrong or even a chavez but really good none the less. Foreman v Frazier well what can you say about this eh? Probably the best victory in HW history all things considered. Such a burtal destruction of a primed HW ATG. Phenomenal. |

Yeah don't get me wrong it's very impressive. Just not as much as armstrong v ross nor chavez v rosario. |

You know me, I value opposition over aesthetic quality when assessing attributes
He certainly looks less troubled against Rivas
