barrera v morales 2

1: 9-10
2: 10-9
3: 9-10
4: 9-10
5: 9-10
6: 10-9
7: 9-10
8: 10-9
9: 10-9
10: 9-10
11: 10-9
12: 10-9

114-114

I watched the version where it gives the judges scores after each each round and there was disagreement in quite a few of them.

I did like Barrera's jab in this fight and it did eventually close Morales' eye, but I think he should ahve used it more as a set up for his attacks, jabbed his way in and then unleashed hooks in close.

There was no way he was going to beat Morales on the straight shots from range and he gave a lot of the early rounds away because of it. Morales threw beautiful combos with his piston like hands at times and barrera was busy trying to echange jabs and move on the backfoot.

Rounds 1, 2 and 8 were mega close so I can see why some think this could have been a victory either side.

Some times I think the scoring system doesn't give a picture of the overall fight, but then I think that's kind of the point, it's not a fight is it? it's a discipline. 12 3 minute fights. I think Morales fought well in each round apart from the last two when his legs seemed to go after the effort of the tenth but at times he looked a class above barrera dominating him at range.

By the last round it was quite sad to see barrera walking through morales's punches as he really had nothing left.

Barrera winning it does feel a bit wrong though, it'd have meant giving him the benefit of the doubt in rounds 1, 2 and 8. taking the coin toss rounds away and morales did better.

Still, i think a draw is a fair result as going round by round that's how I see it.

We disagree on round 2, this is why I have Morlaes winning and you have a draw.

Marquez v Pac 2

1: 10-9
2: 10-9
3: 8-10
4: 9-10
5: 10-9
6: 10-9
7: 9-10
8: 10-9
9: 10-9
10: 9-10
11: 10-9
12: 10-9

first time I scored this I could have sworn pacman was a lot mor accurate

apart from the knockdown in round 3, the assault in round 4 and the round 100 assault, he didn't land much of note (headbutt aside ) he was missing wildly and marquez was happily countering him with ease.

Marquez in round 8 was terrific. He really did a number on pacman and looked really sensational doing so.

The version I just watched was quite high quality so you could see the punches hitting thin air whilt marquez came back and slammed him.

Robbery is a strong word, but I'd struggle to justify 6 rounds for pacman out of those 12.

Ironically I scored the most recent fight between the two a 6-6 draw.

The overall series I have as JMM going 2-0-1.

Julio Cesar Chavez W12 Dwight Pratchett

First time seeing this fight.

Got to take my hat off to Mr Pratchett...man did he show a good beard and really took it to Chavez early..really seemed like he had the tools to be a solid range fighter, with his good jab, good reach and quick straight punches... but he was hell bent on getting up in Julio's grill and pushing him back...paid the price in the end though.

A typical slow building and subtle JCC beating...the pasting Dwight took in rounds 7-12 was criminal..couldn't see a ref/doctor or a corner these days letting that continue.
But given the big effort he gave, I'm glad he got to say he went the rounds.

Gave Pratchett the 2nd and 3rd...He won the 2nd clear enough, the 3rd was debatable..as was the 1st but I gave it to JCC.

The 5th Chavez won 10-8 because Dwight had a point taking for holding behind the head...seemed a bit harsh but the ref was very clear from an early point that he shouldn't being doing it.

The 6th I couldn't split em...Pratchett outworked Chavez and seemingly outlanded him but the heavier replies from Julio spoke very loud to me..good effort by both men.

Chavez then swept from round 7 onwards...each round bigger than the next it seemed and I gave him a 10-8 in a very onesided 11th. Could almost argue the 12th the same but Pratchett put up a better effort in this round.

Either me and Dwight Pratchett have some weird shiningesque timetravelling telepathic link or I drink to much hard spirits...because I swear I could feel his pain to the body..Chavez pounded that mid section (and sometimes a little lower) from start to finish, it was just malicious in the end.

118-109 Chavez.

What stuck out most for me in this fight was a boisterous black sounding women repeatedly yelling "Drop him Dwight!!!"..even into the last seconds...alas he didn't heed her calls.

Jofre v JHarada 1

1: 9-10
2: 9-10
3: 9-10
4: 9-10
5: 10-9
6: 9-10
7: 9-10
8: 10-9
9: 10-9
10: 9-10
11: 10-9
12: 9-10
13: 10-9
14: 10-9
15: 10-9

I have Harada winning by 1 round. I think it's a stretch scoring the fight for jofre, but admittedly a lot of the rounds are close.

It seems to me that whenever Harada opened up and unleashed his blizzard of punches, he had too much for Jofre. The times when the pace slowed, Jofre happily dictated the action.

I'm going to watch the rematch in a minute but from this it seems clear to me that harada made it more difficult for himself than he needed to. His strategy in the first hal fof the fight worked brilliantly (aside from the arse kicking he took in round 5 when jofre finally comanded his respect) and maybe too brilliantly. If he toned the volume down a notch he'd probably have still outpumnched Jofre bu also left more in the tank for the second half of the fight for him to maintain that pace.

I'd expect the rematch to be won clearer by harada because it's a year down the line and stylistically he seemed to have jofre nailed when he put the pressure on.

Round 3- 10-9 Jofre, close
Round 4- 10-9 Harada, without a doubt....great round by the japanese.....
Round 5- 10-9 Jofre, clear...IMO
Round 6- 10-9 Harada, fair
Round 7- 10-9 Harada, fair
Round 8- 10-9 Jofre, very close
Round 9- 10-9 Harada, was close IMO
Round 10-10-9 Harada
Round 11-10-9 Jofre, close
Round 12-10-9 Harada, close
Round 13-10-9 Jofre, clear IMO
Round 14-10-9 Jofre
Round 15- 10-9 Jofre, very, very, very close.....

8-7 Harada.........this is the first time I see Harada winning this bout......round 9, 10 and 12 could go for Eder IMO.....as many of the rounds I give to Eder could go for Harada......
Anyway, that was a close fight.......But I think Eder wasn´t the same in comparison with his performances against Caldwell and Caraballo......he was much faster and accurate against Caldwell (even in that small footage we can see that)....
Not sure if I would call that a past prime version of Eder, but he wasn´t at his best.....and he struggling to make weight was a disavantage in this fight, no doubt.....

We disagree on 3 and 9 but agree on the rest

I noticed jofre had stopped a lot of his opponents in the 6 years leading up to this fight, plus medel had already stopped harada.

I'm not sure mentally jofre was prepared for 15 hard rounds such as this.

Also, what's the deal with that bogus draw between the harada fights? Is that a common practice in brazil?

Was common in South America at the time.......when there wasn´t a clear winner......

I think Jofre underestimated Harada to be honest.....
Harada wasn´t seen as a ATG at the time and I think Eder thought it wouldn´t be so hard.......

That's strange I think, but understandable.

I agree. I'm looking forward to the rematch though. Reading reports i've seen some score it a draw and some score it a clear harada win. Will have to watch it tomorrow now.
