I felt the 2nd fight could've gone either way. And I scored it to Sumbu

Despite McCallum fighting better in the second fight I only had him winning 7-5 (or 6-5-1 don't remember) in a very close fight.

And to be honest I want it Mike to win.

There's nothing controversial in scoring this fight a draw or even a win in favour of Sumbu.

I wonder how carter v hearns would go at lmw.

These two probably have the best performances in the divisions history.

Carter can carry his power late and is very very durable.

Interesting style clash

Holmes v Cooney.

One of the best displays of outboxing I've seen in quite some time. He probably could have won by shut out had he not wanted to get the stoppage victory because at times he was willing to get in close and land some really spiteful shots, even if it meant being in range for cooney's wild sledgehammer blows.

There were times when Holmes spent a bit too long picking the perfect shot as cooney wailed away on him, this might tempt some people to score rounds for gerry but I thought it was quite a dominant display by larry.

As I said the well placed heavy shots are what led to the eventual stoppage because by round 13 cooney was just a big irish punch bag getting the living shit kicked out of him.

I wouldn't rank this performance above say Benitez against Cervantes because it wasn't as fluid and the opponent wasn't as good.

I'd put it above Old Bones against Smith though and even above arguello v kobayashi.

Seeing the ease with which holmes landed his jab from range against Cooney gets me thinking about the awesome jab abttle we'd see between him and wlad. I'm sure he'd lose it though and have to resort to jabbing to the body to get inside and landing big overhand rights once in range.

Today I watched Tony Lopez against Joey Gamache for the WBA lightweight title.

Gamache was a poor champion, but he did have handspeed on his side, and he peppered Lopez early, on. Lopez, the more experienced, harder-hitting challenger, pressed his attack to the body in a patient, measured way. He gradually took Gamache's legs away, and the hometown champ (the bout was held in Portland, Maine) began to get tagged more and more frequently. Finally, Lopez opened up toward the end of the 10th round and continued his assault in the 11th, when he dropped an exhausted, swollen Gamache hard with a big right hand capping off a hurtful combination. Gamache proved gutsy, rising from the knockdown, but he was in no shape to continue, and the ref wisely waved it off. Here's how I had it at the time of the stoppage........

Lopez-Gamache

1: 9-10
2: 9-10
3: 10-9
4: 10-9
5: 9-10
6: 9-10
7: 10-9
8: 10-9
9: 10-9
10: 10-9

Fury-Rogan

Round 1: Rogan 10-9

Round 2: Rogan 10-9

Round 3: Fury 10-8 (Rogan down)

Round 4: Rogan 10-9

Round 5: Fury KO's Rogan with less than twenty seconds to go, with a lefthook to his right kidney, Rogan up & ready at 9, but his corner stops it, as he's visibly still in pain from his agony just seconds ago.

Total: 38-37 (Rogan stopped while slightly ahead on my card.)

Just watched Benitez comprehensively outpoint the always tough Pete Ranzany. I had it 8-1-1 in favor of Benitez, as he stood in the pocket all night and countered the shit out of the hometown favorite. Ranzany stupidly tried to box Benitez at distance, and that was just never gonna work. Excellent display from the Puerto Rican.

That was Benitez at his best.Great mid-distance control and pivoting in that one.

Jofre v Medel I & II

Jofre here, isn't much better than he was against Harada in my opinion, he was just a little bit better at everything. Slightly quicker, Slightly better Reflexes, Slightly better timing and more consistent with his work.

I'm convinced he was in his prime years for the first Harada fight, but I don't think he gave it his all and against someone with Harada's style, that's a losing formula.

Had he been as sharp as he was in his earlier fights he'd have been able to negate a lot more of harada's attack imo because he was a solid crisp puncher and he'd have forced fighting's repsect much earlier and been able to rack up rounds. Unfortunately, I don't believe we ever saw him at his best against harada so we can only go off what we see.

But what I see isn't a great deal better, just subtley better across the board. Maybe I'm wrong and someone could point out some footgae that demonstrates he had fell a level, I think it's more likely that he underestimated the guy who'd been sparked by the guy he'd sparked or harada was just that good.

Just to be clear though, it was a very good performance against a consensus top 5 operator. Very crisp punches well timed, Medel ultimately was out of hsi league here.

I donīt disagree strongly Luf......In fact youīre right, he was slightly better at everything....

Jofre always said that this was his toughest fight....and against Medel he hadnīt any weight problem like happened against Harada......

Who knows one day we can see the full footage of this fight here against Caldwell or others....

Wilfredo Gomez v Lupe Pintor

Been watching a few of gomez's fights the way he dealt with zarate was BRUTAL.I didnt know the result of this fight v pintor which made it better.i thought 3 rounds here all over but i was wrong and had pintor building up a big lead and thought gomez was tiring and the eye was worsening every second but all those right hands told in the end. They must have used make up in pintor's corner!A GREAT GREAT FIGHT

Wilfredo Gomez is a bad mother****er
