One of the three (?) pre-title Galaxy fights available on film.

I've read that another available pre-title Galaxy fight against future bantamweight champion Chan-Young Park was a tough points win (obviously) for Galaxy
as Park was outboxing Galaxy and winning the first half of the fight but as usual Khaosai's godly powah and stamina made the difference in the end.

Got to add that was a bad matchup for McGowan. I think he'd had about 20 fights, he was a flyweight and Medel was no1 contender for the bantamweight title with 80 odd fights under his belt. McGowan had just beaten the very highly regarded French bantamweight Felix Brami and looked brilliant doing it. I think they got a bit carried away with themselves taking on Medel at that point. A lot of those Mexican bantams at the time were sneaky old and even young for that matter pros. They had to be to fight there way through the talent that was about them in their own country. I'd say to be bantam champ of Mexico at that time was worth more than any "world" title these days.

Quality post Al. I agree with the Mexican bantamweight title; in the 60s the title fights included a who's who of ace fighters.

You've hit the nail on the head there mate, trying to fight when he should be boxing. Medel was very likely the biggest puncher McGowan fought and he's looking for a tear up with him. Hats of to Medel for luring him in like that just like he did against Harada first time who was still relatively inexperienced. Harada never made that mistake second time though showing plenty of respect. I thought that fight was very close by the way and Medel had him hurt in the 15th.

I felt Harada won it by a fair few points but it was really tense wasn't it? Harada used his jab more but still leaned on Medel too much for my liking.

But a much improved performance, although his instinctive recovery attempts in the first fight are the stuff of legend! He just can't quite do it

60s was without a doubt the greatest era for 118lbs. A very international flavour for most of the decade and then the Mexicans just get more and more influence towards the end. Three of the greatest P4P fighters ever held the World title at some stage, and the list of contenders varying decent to brilliant would outstrip the top ten of a few of the lower weight classes today combined.

One contender I yearn to see but there sadly seems to be no footage of, at either bantam or fly, in victory or defeat, Dwight Hawkins. A severe puncher by reputation.

Wilfredo Gomez TKO 9 Alberto Davila

Gomez won rds 2,3,4
rds 1,5,6 were close but givable 2 Gomez if 4ced .

Gomez' way of punching seems more impressing 2 some , partially rightfully , but in times Davila hit him in re2rn and there is a small missing part in rd 7 if i remember correctly . D rest of rd 7 was still 2 close .

In d 9th rd Gomez floored him and after Davila rose d fight was resumed but then Gomez trapped him near d ropes until d referee came 2 rescue .

It was a simple case of a big and massive 122 beating a small 118 . Seemingly a very small 118 .

Not every win proves p4p quality , especially such that come against such undersized opponents .
Swap their sizes and Wilfredo does not repeat it .

in d 1st KD it seemed like Gomez spat on Davila and after d stoppage Gomez still tried 2 keep fighting .

Gomez' spitting on him reminded me a short Sosa excerpt where he did it 2 some opponent .

Then I watched Prudencio Cardona KO1 of Antonio Avelar .
N upscaled video .

D uploader might not b guilty 4 it , but is not there a way 2 downscale back 2 original quality ?

Gomez was punch perfect in that fight. You might as well stop watching boxing mate.

I did not criticize his way of punching , even if there is what 2 criticize it 4 .

u just r incapable of understanding Y was not he so punch perfect vs Sanchez ? or Y was not he / it still failed him vs Nelson ?

or who was his best h2h stoppage victim ?

just incapable as usual .

No. Because they were bigger and (arguably) better than Davila.

What you don't understand is that you're a ****ing re****. Where are you from? I'd gladly meet you just to put some money in your collection tin.
