Saldivar-Winstone 2 - epic finish by Zurdo de Oro.

What I like about Saldivar is that he could switch from D.Curry sniper mode to rough slugger mode if necessary.

The final 90 seconds of Concepcion-Carrillo rematch are the reason why El Nica is an ATG.

Wilfred Benitez vs Tony Chiaverini

A clinic on how to fight off the ropes. The commentary team felt Chiaverini was doing well early on, but he was pretty much getting countered to death from the opening bell to the eventual stoppage. Benitez would be perfectly content to lay on the ropes and soak up all of Chiaverini's pressure. Barely anything would land of note, and then Benitez would explode with combinations, most of which would land. As the rounds passed, Benitez was landing at a higher rate and more cleanly. Chiaverini's head was snapping back with every right hand and left hook. It was a dominant performance. Outclassed. Chiaverini was pulled out after the 8th round by corner man Angelo Dundee.

Fights like that where a guy is on the ropes from the off can throw you indeed when you see them live, it just looks wrong, fools your brain a bit.

Quartey v De La Hoya.

Had it Oscar by one point. Ike was 1 up after the 11th and Oscar really dug deep to defend his belt.

I think Oscar was too busy for Ike in the early rounds and despite taking the lions share of the middle rounds it was Oscar who rallied late to score the victory.

Actually a decent fight I thought.

Yeah I know at times Ike stifled the action with his high guard and bazooka jab but the early rounds where great and the 6th as well.

I mean in round 2 both landed flush power shots in exchanges during the last minute, very back and forth.

i don't think ike didn't anything wrong in that fight: oscar was just a shade better. two of the best jabbers of the era and they managed to put on a decent fight

Yeah I agree. Maybe he could have stood up to the late rally better but that just shows how great Oscar was to pull that off against a solid durable defensively sound world class boxer.

The knockdown and the cut. Great fight to watch live.

Martinez turned from cherry pick to superstar that night.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching Harold Johnson decisively outpoint Ezzard Charles, thanks to the urging of Littlered and Phillyfan.......I can't fathom how any judge could have scored that for Charles, but at least the right guy got the nod. Johnson has a great counter right in this fight, and Chalres was very wary of it after the first round or two, but still managed to get tagged. Johnson even controlled the tougher exchanges, which is contrary to the image I had in my head of an ultra-cautious boxer. Johnson could apparently stand in with you and bang when he had to. He certainly gained Charles' respect. I didn't write anything down as I went because I was also busy changing diapers, but I only saw one round you might have been able to give poor Ezzard.

Thanks also to McGrain for having that on his channel......

I also had Johnson outpointing Charles.

Choklab hounded me for days telling me how wrong I was.

I had it to Johnson but I had it close...it's a controversial one on the forum, that, I think SuzieQ has a thread on it somewhere and it was half and half.

A lot of them are pure nutters though, the Marciano Mob. Those guys are determined that Charles was robbed on account of his winning makes his scalp bigger when Marciano takes it.
