Actually a decent fight I thought.
its more than one great round i had the same score and really dig it

Yeah I know at times Ike stifled the action with his high guard and bazooka jab but the early rounds where great and the 6th as well.

I mean in round 2 both landed flush power shots in exchanges during the last minute, very back and forth.

i don't think ike didn't anything wrong in that fight: oscar was just a shade better. two of the best jabbers of the era and they managed to put on a decent fight

Yeah I agree. Maybe he could have stood up to the late rally better but that just shows how great Oscar was to pull that off against a solid durable defensively sound world class boxer.

Martinez-Pavlik.

This fight gets underrated. Whilst it never really had intense exchanges, it was a good bout. Lots of momentum swings.

The knockdown and the cut. Great fight to watch live.

Martinez turned from cherry pick to superstar that night.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching Harold Johnson decisively outpoint Ezzard Charles, thanks to the urging of Littlered and Phillyfan.......I can't fathom how any judge could have scored that for Charles, but at least the right guy got the nod. Johnson has a great counter right in this fight, and Chalres was very wary of it after the first round or two, but still managed to get tagged. Johnson even controlled the tougher exchanges, which is contrary to the image I had in my head of an ultra-cautious boxer. Johnson could apparently stand in with you and bang when he had to. He certainly gained Charles' respect. I didn't write anything down as I went because I was also busy changing diapers, but I only saw one round you might have been able to give poor Ezzard.

Thanks also to McGrain for having that on his channel......

I had it to Johnson but I had it close...it's a controversial one on the forum, that, I think SuzieQ has a thread on it somewhere and it was half and half.

A lot of them are pure nutters though, the Marciano Mob. Those guys are determined that Charles was robbed on account of his winning makes his scalp bigger when Marciano takes it.

I personally couldn't envisage Charles winning that fight. It was close, but I just don't see how one could score it for Ez'.

Another here who thinks Johnson-Charles was crystal clear for Harold. And yet, many seem to think otherwise....

In some ways Johnson-Charles is like DLH-Mosley II. If you value the jab you'll score it for Oscar all day long but if you tend to discard jabs and look for power shots, you can convince yourself that Mosley did enough.

I think the same mentality to fight scoring applies to Johnson-Charles.

I agree with mcgrain totally. 9 times out of 10 on here when someone scores that fight for ex they follow it up with something like "and then he was in the best shape of his life against marciano" it is just a way of building an argument he was in his prime

Ray Leonard vs Ranzany & Price

Man, Ray was a straight up killer! Those finishes were as brutal and as clinical as anything you're ever likely to see. His hand speed was ridiculous at 147lbs.
