Roman Gonzalez Vs Juan Francisco Estrada

GONZALEZ: 2; 3; 5; 6; 7; 8; 11;
ESTRADA: 1; 4; 9; 10; 12

GONZALEZ 115-113 ESTRADA

Close and exciting fight, not overly dramatic bar the 12th round, but two tidy, contrasting operators going at about their work in a smart but high-paced fashion. The 8th and 12th are potential swing rounds, but I felt Gonzalez edged it. Rematch at 112 is a necessity now.

Brian Viloria Vs Juan Francisco Estrada

VILORIA: 1; 3; 5; 6;
ESTRADA: 2; 4; 7; 8; 9; 10; 11; 12

VILORIA 112-116 ESTRADA

But another win for Gonzalez isn’t a given. Unlike some of his other losses, Viloria didn’t capitulate and lose shamefully. Estrada was too quick, too strong, and dug to the body well throughout. Viloria landed some of his well-placed shots during the fight, but Estrada took them well. Viloria didn’t land any of his well-timed humdingers, but even though he was seemingly hurt twice in the final round he tried to rally. Very good win from a bit of a sleeper talent in Estrada. Hopefully Martinez and Ioka make it up to fly to fight Estrada, and Yaegashi looks strong enough at the weight to still make for exciting fights, maybe a rematch with Ioka. Inoue looks to be a good enough prospect to join the ranks a year down the line, and Concepcion and Marquez could feasibly give Estrada a good fight as well. Segura and Sosa are fighting too I think.I imagine Shiming will be force fed jokers until he’s got enough marks in the win column to warrant some kind of title challenge (where he’ll get merc’d)

Flyweight looks healthy.

last night was a great triumph for subtle technique and learning your ringcraft over relying on a few strong basic tools and significant physical advantages.these kind of upsets are always great.

Got to say i really wasn't sure Rigondeaux would be able to overcome the size\reach after seeing him a few times look quite strained and unconvincing on the backfoot trying to contain bigger, less technical fighters for the full 12.He was excellent though and Donaire showed a lot of the flaws i felt were there and simply had yet to be properly exploited by someone skilled enough to take advantage of them.

It was a nice schooling, but I would have preferred if Rigo stood in there a bit more and used some inside game instead of the Mayweatheresque speedy pot shotting with lots of movement and low risk taking approach.

As impressive a performance as it was, I still felt it was rather 2-dimensional.

From all i've seen of Rigo i doubt he's going to be a fighter who will do much infighting if he isn't forced into it.Mid-range\outside is his comfort zone.

I'm not too big on him as a stick and mover tbh, but he was much better here.Donaire was a big let down though, he didn't exactly make it tough to move around him.I think Rigondeaux vs a good swarmer or pressuring technician that can cut off the ring would tell us a lot more about his infighting prowess.

To be honest, after rewatching again whilst sober, nonito was so one dimensional rigo never really had to get out of second gear. There was no need for him to mix it up when he could so patently make donaire miss by inches and land a shot of his own before spinning away.

Rigo stepped it up in the 10th and 12th whenever nonito came on strong but he fought pretty much a perfect fight. Out threw, out landed and out percentaged nonito every single round.

I wanna see rigo against a top class jab. See how he handles that.

Made me laugh seeing a guy so small bully a guy so big. Rigo is probably a natural bantamweight and donaire a natural lightweight. Seeing rigo bully him in that last round reminded me of torrecampo v pacman.

It was a great performance.

It was obvious before the fight that Rigo's style could trouble Donaire's counterpunching/one shot at a time/no jab style.

Rigo proved he is good enough to school Donaire.

Forrest's performance versus Mosley was great too.
And then he got embarrassed by Mayorga of all people.

I'd like to see more of Rigo, preferably against world-class pressure fighter as he didn't look convincing versus Maroquin.

So we could truly evaluate his abilities.

Well done Lester. You've brought everyone back with a timely Forrest-Mosley I example.

Calm down gentlemen.

I rewatched Lopez vs Sanchez I today. It's the epitome of a great fight, even if it isn't back and forth action. As a matter of fact, Lopez largely got dominated every single round. He still wasn't really going anywhere, and was adding tons of pressure on Sanchez. Sanchez is just brilliant here. Fantastic movement, crisp combinations, beautiful right hands. I don't think many featherweights could beat him here. Shout out to Lopez though, great puncher.

I've seen the Rigo fight last night, I'm shocked to say the least. Rigo is a master boxer. The one thing I say he's lacking is the ability to fight forward and maybe more combinations. I'm more shocked in Donaire's excuses and his reluctance to accept the loss. He really said it should have been a draw.. **** off, Donaire.
