"Andre Ward is likely the P4P number one boxer in the world right now."
Right now that statement looks outlandish. Tomorrow it will less so. Ward is the complete package. He is perfectly balanced, durable, has high levels of fitness, powerful, solid reflexes, has a great mentality, is technically skilled, is fast. He has physical gifts equal to any almost any fighter out there, and a level of skill equal to anyone out there. Who has he beat? Only Kessler. But it doesn't matter. You can see from the way he dominates his world class opponents he is the best in the world right now. After tonight only a few people will have the mental flexibility to concede Ward is the best boxer in the world right now. Some people will be stubborn and will insist Mayweather or Pacquaio are the best boxing has to offer. They will never change their minds, ever perhaps. Even though Pacquaio was comprehensively out boxed by Marquez. They have been brainwashed by promoters and the media, many by Golden Boy and Bob Arum. Mikkel Kessler is a great fighter and has barely lost a round in his career. People will resort to knocking this great fighter down, because they fear Andre Ward. They will force themselves to ignore the fact that Ward is a special fighter. Just like they try to convince themselves Juan Manuel Marquez is a special fighter, even though he struggled again Chris John and several other mediocre world level fighters. He can be outboxed and he outboxed Pacquiao, open your eyes. Sure Pacquaio is more explosive and sure Mayweather is flashier and has more style. But Kessler a better all round fighter than either of them. Pacquaio has numerous weaknesses and is too open. Mayweather lacks work rate. He has to sit back and pick his shots. Ward can pick his shots on the back foot or on the front foot. He can force a fight in a way Mayweather can only dream of being able to. I urge people to proclaim Andre Ward P4P number one, NOW. Not in hindsight after he beats elite fighter after elite, but before. Demonstrate your insight into the sport. Do not be afraid to go against the grain. When we look back at this thread in 2 years time and you are seen to have proclaimed Andre Ward pound for pound number one all the way back in November 2009 it will be known you have an elite level of understanding about the sport of boxing and are not just someone who listens to RING Magazine. Just rank Andre Ward as your P4P number one NOW. You will only look an imbecile temporarily. If he wins the super six and knocks everyone out in doing so, then moves up in weight and beats Chad Dawson; then I might agree with you.
Saying he's your favourite fighter, fair enough. But proclaiming him p4p #1 before he's done anything particularly significant is just stoopid!
