Duran-Hearns

I've been watching alot of Duran lately so i re-watched this fight.
Hearns looked great that night, very fast and very powerful.
He was hitting Duran with almost every punch he threw and was in control for the entire bout.

Now on to my question. Was Duran fighting a different strategy than normal?
Yes i know he was past prime and overweight and that jazz,
but to me he wasn't really going inside intelligently against Hearns,
just trying to bum rush him with no head movement at all.
Could he have fared better if he had?
Or was Hearns always gonna win?

It's hard to say. I believe that he went in planning on using a typical strategy but it went all out the window when Hearns started overwhelming him.

He didn't respect Hearns. Thought he couldn't take a punch and didn't think he was tough enough. Didn't turn out well for him... but he blames it all on being hit on top of the head and all that alcohol pouring down on him or something... I don't know.

The Hearns who parked a disinterested Duran in 1984 out in Vegas looked primed at 154 pounds.............. No Welter or Jr. Middle could beat Hearns on that June night.........

I swear to Christ, Duran entered the ring looking like he just crawled outta bed with a couple of bitches....... Duran was there to collect a 2.5 million dollar check..... Duran hoped he would not have to get parked, but sometimes that comes with the check......

Duran trained somewhere between 5 and 7 days for this fight. And it was a horrible match-up for him in a weight division he really didn't belong in. Hearns was a fucking monster at this weight.

well personally i think it's a bit of both. probably duran wasn't in great shape but on the other hand. hearns was great that night. and i also think that duran (who i highly respect) would always have trouble with hearns.

Dejesus I - Took him lightly, non-title fight.
Leonard II - Outta shape, too much money to turn down, stomach cramps.
Benitez - Still suffereing from `no mas` mentally, lost his drive, conditioning could have been better.
Kirkland Laing - Took him lightly, outta shape again.
Hearns - Women, booze, thought Tommy was a chicken etc.
Robbie Sims - Choose one of the above.

You see the pattern developing here ?

Roberto Duran is easily one of my favourite fighters & undisputedly a top 10 ATG but he is one terrible loser, really really bad, fuck me, this guy is the king of excuses, for real...

.... no doubt at all.
