Default David Haye of today vs Ron Lyle (of the Foreman fight)

Haye looked great in demolishing Derek Chisora in his last bout vs Lyle, circa 1976) who fought a donnybrook in barely coming up short vs a rusty comebacking George Foreman.

Haye is more skilled. The men are similar in stature although Haye moved up to HW from the Cruiserweight division. Haye is also quicker by a mile. Both hit hard. Both have questionable chins. However, Lyle, to his credit came back and kayoed Shavers after almost being decapitated in the 2nd round. So I give Lyle the edge in the chin department. Hayes speed could be the deciding factor here. Speed coupled with heavy hands and immense punching power could spell Lyle's doom here.

Haye is a pretender. Lyle would knock him out.

I had Ruiz winning that fight.

Still, Haye is much too modern for Lyle.

i'm not an expert on breaking down styles but i'll give it a shot...

lyle has a much better jab and is relatively durable (RELATIVELY). haye is far quick, both of hand and foot, and throws superior combinations.

hayes comes out with a commanding first round, knocking down lyle and asserting himself. lyle takes over by the third with his jab and even scores a flash knockdown as haye comes in. haye paces himself and takes some rounds off, moving away from lyle.

lyle has a lead by the 6th but haye is coming back on, ambushing lyle and scoring heavy heavy blows. as he gasses going for the kill in the 9th, lyle clinches wisely and gets more and more physical. turning the fight into an inside brawl, haye is outgunned strength wise and lyle uses his superior physicality to rough him up on the inside.

haye finally establishes some distance and tries to win from the outside. lyle is with him jab for jab though and keeps it competitive into the championship rounds as haye slows down a touch.

Lyle SD in a match that demands a return

Lyle via KO. He had a better work rate, had a decent jab and used it to set his punches up, and his toughness is unquestionable. Haye would be competitive, but I see Lyle eventually grinding into Haye and landing some big shots to knock him out.

Haye will stop him easily via 1-2 combination:

Lyle got up from Shavers. Haye has speed but he's very raw and flawed. Will his speed & power allow him to fend Lyle off? I'm not sure, his power if anything gets a little overrated. And Haye is a shit finisher. Lyle stoppage.

  • Haye has improved drastically in this regard. Watch his fight against Chisora.
  • He fought excellently in the pocket. It looks like his moves were inspired by guys like Marciano and Henry Armstrong.
  • Ten toes since the Wladimir bout.
  • Chisora "I will physically burn him" get's dominated by two feet Haye.
