Default Wilfredo Gomez Vs. Erik Morales

this would be an all time great trilogy, in my opinion. I simply can't decide who will take it. this a mouth watering dream fight, I love thinking about fantasy matchups like this. so who'd take it?

Morales is too open and Gomez picks him off

THis is a tough one to call Gomez was more fluid, faster and punched harder. Morales was tougher and pretty damn good at everything but not outstanding in any particular category. Maybe Gomez by a razor close decision And in the rematch Morales stops Gomez late. The 3rd fight would decide who the better man was This could be one of those trilogys where not much separates the two. Kind of like Morales/Barrera and Vasquez/R Marquez

Im thinking about it, I get the feeling that gomez gives morales his greatest challenge ever in the later rounds. who has erik morales ever faced that possessed the awesome right hand knockout power that bazooka had? most likely no one. you can never doubt a prime morales' inability to take a punch without landing two or three of his own in response though. what a fight it would be.

Gomez all the way at 122: he just did everything better than Morales here. I do think Morales might go the distance and have some good moments throughout, but he'd need all of his fighting spirit and endurance to do so, or else Gomez would just beat him down.

It's a closer affair at 126, harder to pick. Gomez was diminished here from 122 whereas Morales carried up his effectiveness. Morales might be able to do what it takes to gut out a very hard-fought win, but I wouldn't bet any money on it.

Ok in that case at 126 I would definitly go with Morales I would put Money on that one At 122 I am leaning towards Gomez though.

The more I think about it, the more I actually realise how hittable Morales was. Troublingly so for a top fighter, and even though his jaw was rock hard, I don't think he'd be able to withstand the type of heavy artillery with which Gomez flattened Zarate. Not if he was getting hit over and over, which logic suggests that he would.

Do you agree with me that Morales takes him at 126? He also takes him at 130,but 122 Gomez was a beast.

He has a greater shot at 126 no doubt, better than at 122. I'd still lean towards Gomez though, even though he wasn't the force of old. At 130, Morales was on the decline himself, so I'm not sure.

Gomez wasnt even a good fighter anymore at 130 he got a gift against Lockridge and Lost to a no body champ Alfredo Layne. Morales would beat him fairly easily at 130 at least he had wins over Pac,Jesus Chavez,Famoso Hernandez and fought a great close war with Barrera at 130. At 126 Gomez was Hot and Cold and I think Morales gets him there too. At 122 i will go with Gomez which was best weight and in my opinion solidified his ATG status.

Top fight....I definitely think Gomez wins though, could very well force a stoppage at 122.

Im about 60/40 that Gomez wins at 122,i dont know if he
would have stopped Morales at 122 but if anyone could do it,it would be Gomez. What do you think at 126 rock?

PS I answered your question about Me and Hector Lopez in the clink together Did you check it out? You left the site after i answered.

Yeah just saw it anarci..interesting insight there. Hope you keeping out of trouble now my man.

Gomez had a few so-so performances at 126...But I think he was getting a bit battle worn by then and just didnt have the body to go up in weight effectively. Morales is the bigger man, no question. Had there been no superbantam divvy, Gomez probably would have forged a career at bantam but it would have been interesting to see his longevity there compared to his 122 reign. I think eventually he would be struggling to make the weight.

Erik didnt exactly set the world on fire against Espadas and Chi...Id still side with Gomez assuming he is coming in shape. I actually feel he could weigh in at around 122 and still beat a 126 Morales but it would be harder going then if they both had to make superbantam.

Agreed.

I think Gomez is just a bad style matchup for him, regardless of the weight.
