Mando Ramos KO6 Yoshiaki Numata

Another maybe-great who pissed it all away.

I like Ramos. Doesn't waste much, tidy, good feet, good everything, maybe nothing really extraordinary though? Great, great variety of punches, takes advantage of every opening. I love the way that, in this fight, he lets the flashy Numata get on with it whilst he's feeling up to it, stalking, making room for his shots, clinical in awaiting the right moment and then opens up with short, sharp punches, and every single one of the in the book. Loving seeing a jab used so offensively as opposed to as a "tool" or as setting up other things, hurtful punches in themselves. If you're not into watching it all, just watch part two for the way Ramos systematically, and cooly breaks his man down. Kinda reminds me of you know who, but i'm not gettting to carried away in making that comparison literally, just saying he reminds me of him a bit. Anyway:

Any strong feelings one way or the other about Ramos? Both a lucky and a stupid fighter, I think, but a really good one.

I have the fight... only its in black and white. I love watchin it. One of the most brutal body punching displays you'll ever see.

Great body punching and i really like the methodical application of pressure, it is quite clinical. Numata had fucking heart.

McGrain i know you said you don't want to get into it but who was that comparison with? I'm curious now. I saw Joe Lous in his approach (the way his fists did the hunting i mean)

Louis for sure.

Numata has a fond place in my heart, anyone who attempts (or indeed pulls off) the Shoryuken from Street Fighter is a legend. Isn't faring as well here though

Is that what it was called? Then Ken and Ryu moves i just used to know by ear rather than official name.

Like 'haaduken', that's what it was in my head anyway. You talking about the Rojas fight where he pulled off the Shoryuken? Fucking against the run of play is an understatement.

he missed it first time, I thought the momentum had just taken him around in a 360.

But then he did it again and connected, incredible

EDIT: Used to read the Manga adaptation as a wee lad in the early-to-mid 90's. It was written in there, and I believe it's 'Hadouken'.

One thing I want to ask; has anyone else seen any other Numata fights bar this and the Rojas one? Because I fear he's susceptible to body shots in a bad way, floored badly from them. Strange, he looks built to the body.

Okay get in! I was pronouncing it right, i put an extra a in for good measure cos it sounded a bit prolonged to me but still i think i pass with flying colours there!

I've only seen these two, but i get you big time, in terms of defending the body he's just well open it seems, at critical times anyway.

You have a very creative mind, would be a *******, and interesting at other times also. Numata seems like a Gatti sometimes, when he tried to reinvent himself then just starts swinging literally from the heels.
