Default The Real Deal stripped of WBA "super" title - Official

Quote:
The WBA have taken the decision to strip their WBA 'super' champion Daniel Geale of his title. Geale was supposed to face Kazakhstan's WBA 'regular' champion, Gennady Golovkin, in his next fight but has instead chosen a more lucrative rematch with fellow Aussie, Anthony Mundine.

Geale still holds the IBF title which he won in May 2011 when he beat Germany's Sebastian Silvester over 12-rounds. Geale lost a controversial split decision to Mundine back in may 2009 and will be out for revenge in the 2013 rematch.

Geale and his team knew of the obligations they would have to take on prior to the Sturm fight. Even though the WBA have done the dirt on him, its not as if they sprung it on him out of nowhere. Golovkin was due his shot at the full title and Geale knows that. Been waiting since 2010. Saying that though, its not right. If ya win it in the ring, let that be the place you lose it and not at a WBA convention.

My initial thoughts

He was really banking on fighting for the unified titles, somthing he never had the balls to go out and do when he was the regular WBA champ.

He still wont be considered super champ because he has not defended the regular title 10+ times or unified with another major (WBO,IBF,WBC) title?

Did you know the WBA recently santioned Martin Murray to fight for the WBA interim Middleweight title later this year? A complete contradiction to the whole situation. Proving my point that the WBA are a joke.

Absolutely ****ing disgraceful decision.

Geale is being punished for Sturm's failings.

It's kind of hard to take them seriously as a major world sanctioning body because they clearly are only interested in pandering to vested overseas interests & not in giving the fighters who fight for their titles a fair go (in this case, Geale).

Geale hasn't ducked Golovkin. He's taken the most lucrative fight available that is in the best interests of the sport in this country against a fighter who (officially) holds a win over him.

From now on, I'm only prepared to recognise the IBF & WBC as legitimate world sanctioning bodies. The WBA strap doesn't count.

That's bad news for Danny Green btw because he was only ever the interim WBC SM champ and his WBA LH title is what gave him full recognition as a world champion.

Sorry about that Danny & Green Machine fans but this decision is a ****ing joke.

I'm prepared to sacrifice Danny Green's official world championship status for the sake of principle.

**** the WBA forever. They no longer exist.

Choc will need the KO for sure now!
SHaw has the IBF in his pocket, I think Geale TBH is happy to not have the WBA for two reasons.
a) Shaw controls the outcome if it goes 12 now and
b) Do not need to fight GGG (GGG would easily KO Geale).

Lucky Choc won't need the judges, goodnight Geale

If mundine wins I still classify it as beating a unified world champ. Doesn't change my opinion that this will be one of the biggest fights in Aussie history

Forget about the WBA.

I've just stripped them of their world sanctioning body status.

All you need to do from now on to be undisputed champion is unify the WBC & IBF titles.

I've been saying he will be stripped for ages..my question is why did grange not handle this properly and relinquish the title instead of him being stripped...grange should of handled this better..

Daniel Geale will get the opportunity to contest the WBA title with Gennady Golovkin some time in the future if he chooses.

Not sure how much difference it would have made for Geale if he'd relinquished instead of being stripped of the title? Either way he doesn't hold it any more, and if he'd relinquished it, it may have pissed the WBA off more - never wise to burn your bridges when you don't have to.
