Default What Specifically gives Pavlik his Power ?

The fight on the weekend was really proof that physique has nothing to do with power.

Analyzing Kelly's right hand carefully, what aspects of it give him the power ?

It doesn't seem excessively fast, i think he sits down on it well meaning he drives his hips into the punch. His timing is decent but not amazing

What else makes him so powerful ?

pavlik was born with dynamites on both hands, but he did do alot to improve his power, he hit tyres with sledgehammers, flipped tires, pushed cars, lifted weights, hit the bag.....

I think punching technique deserves a mention as well

actually i'm not too sure about that, he is pretty wild, he is a natural born puncher, he probably would have hit hard without really focusing on technique, like sam peter.

The way I understand it is that Pavlik started out as a so-so puncher when he was very young and one day, practically overnight, he started throwing wiked dynamite punches which IMO means that he finally figured out his punching distance. After you've boxed for a while you might figure out that there's a specific distance in your punching range where everything is at 100%. I'll give you a hint; I discovered mine when I was trying NOT to hurt my sparring partners. I thought, maybe if I catch him on kind of the end of my punches it won't hurt him and I can up the speed and intensity of sparring. One connect on the end of my punch and lights out. You can play around with the handpads and see what I'm talking about.

Don't believe in it.

Fighting ability is directly correlated to squat poundage.

You wana know the secret?
Train till you can't move anymore. If you can still move then you didn't train hard enough.

He is naturally very heavy handed. He gets good leverage on his punch and when he doesn't he still has heavy hands because of the shots stability. This is even when he'll throw a punch technically incorrect.

I haven't watched much of him but his straight right looked decent, technique wise.

Oh god... here's that cross training guy again with his bullshit. Follow me here. Squatting gives you muscle. Muscle gets in the way when you punch, your bones cannot move freely anymore if there is muscle in the way. I had all muscle surgically removed from my arms and I hit like a mule now.

power(fast twitch fibers) are genetic, they can be trained but if you have no power while you will improve with proper training you will never be a power hitter, just like a marathon runner with sprint training will never be a top sprinter
