Default Jump Rope Size

Hey,

I've been an athlete all of my life but I've never really jumped rope. I recently got a rope that's supposed to adjust to all sizes, and it goes up to my shoulder length like some sites suggest. However, it doesn't seem to be long enough. It feels like I have no leg room whatsoever when I try to jump. Is this me just being bad or do I need a 10 or 11 ft rope?

The best way to see if it is right length is to stand oon the middle pf the rope, making it taunt then pulling each handle up to your armpits.

What Curly said is right on the money. If you measure ur rope that way it will be correct, check and see if ur arms are bent too much, or too far away from ur body, and do not swing ur arms just the wrists. It might beur technique.

Sounds like your 'flying' i.e hands are to far away from your body as grumpy suggests above. Ensure that your hands are close to your body.

This should help you: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG0Vgww1XhY[/ame]

I agree. Your hands should stay at about hip level, and they shouldn't be moving much except turning at the wrists. If you do that, you can shorten the rope a lot. And your feet should only be coming off the floor about an inch.

If I stand with both feet on the rope, the handles are at about bellybutton height. I like my rope short so it's faster.
