After the Florida State Boxing Commission declined to approve Yohan Banks (2-1 MMA, 2-0 SF) as an opponent for former WEC star Bobby Lashley (4-0 MMA, 0-0 SF) at the Jan. 30 event, "Strikeforce: Miami," the promotion has come up with another option.
Journeyman Jimmy Ambriz (14-12-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) has been targeted by the promotion as a late replacement for Banks, and the matchup is now waiting on approval from the FSBC. MMAjunkie.com (***.mmajunkie.com) first learned of the potential matchup late Thursday night, and FiveOuncesOfPain.com has since reported the proposed bout citing a source close to one of the fighters. A super heavyweight, Ambriz has been competing professionally since 2001. A veteran of such organizations as the WEC, DREAM, K-1, Pancrase, King of the Cage and Rage in the Cage, among others, Ambriz has fought all over the world. Win or lose, most of Ambriz's bouts have ended quickly, with 21 of his 27 career contests ending in the first round. The Huntington Beach, Calif., resident has faced a host of notables in his career, including Josh Barnett, ****** Eilers, Scott Junk, Sergei Kharitonov, Jerome LeBanner, Jeff Monson, Ricco Rodriguez, Chris Tuchscherer, Ruben Villareal and Ron Waterman, among others. Banks was recently removed from the proposed matchup with Lashley when the FSBC "determined that the bout was not competitive." No word yet from the commission on whether the fight with Ambriz has or will be approved. Im only curious about this bout because its Lashley. Ambriz is a fat can though. The guy should stick to powerlifting. He looked like an absolute joke when he fought Kharitonov. Lashley needs to get rid of this guy quick if he wants to be taken seriously. Im more surprised that Dana hasnt made a swoop for him yet. Then again i dont think Lashley thinks he's ready for the big leagues yet. |

Lashley wrestles still as well, Dana wouldnt want that. He's decent, and has potential, but yeah he isn't ready for the UFC. I'm glad he wants to do things the proper way though, getting experience before rushing to the big fights.

True. But if he wants to take MMA seriously he needs to do it fulltime. I can understand wanting to make money but he needs to one or the other not both.

to be fair, he only wrestles 4 times a month at the most... but yeah, he has to take it more seriously. Can't blame him for taking the money though, he probably makes a decent amount per date.

Pudz yes. He looked like an angry caveman in his debut. Lashley and Lesnar no way. Those guys are serious athletic talents. And i cant see Lashley ever being as bad as Sapp. But naturally there is always an unhealthy obesseion with huge heavys.

Lashley and especially Lesnar are not freakshows at all, they are serious athletes with great backgrounds in wrestling; no different than Dan Severn, Mark Coleman, Mark Kerr, Kevin Randleman, Randy Couture, and all the other big American wrestlers who have been hugely successful in MMA.

its the 'tainted by association thing' fact is they both made there names as a vince mcmahon bunnygirl! it makes me pissed that these guys jump into the sport and recieve more exposure and easy routes to the top than a guy who has trained/fought for years.

You've got to be ****ing kidding me. Lesnar is nothing like Butterbean, he is a proven champion. Sakuraba was also a pro wrestler, is he as Butterbean is to boxing? Josh Barnett?
