Default Khan v Lawton - Commonwealth Lightweight Title Fight!

We all know what happened during Khan's fight with Limond in July when he came back from a knockdown to capture the Commonwealth Title.

Since then we have discussed his 'Angry Young Men' reality tv show, his fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, the cyrotherapy he has been undergoing (aids sports recovery) and his latest prediction that he will become a World Champion within 5 fights.

Well the first of those fights is on Saturday when he will be making his first defence of the Commonwealth Title against Scott Lawton.

Lawton, who is from the Midlands, has sold a lot of tickets for this fight
and fancies his chances - he watches the Limond fight every day and believes he can take advantage of the weakness in Khans defence.

Khan admits he learned alot from the Limond fight and is determined to do himself justice in his next performance.

No disrespect to Lawton who is a fighter I respect but the stats seem to suggest this is a step backward for Khan - Lawton is 97 in the world ratings (Khan in top 15) and Limond is at 70 even after his defeat. Lawton has 4 KO wins out of 24 which is half the amount Limond has on his record. No surprise then that Khan is a huge favourite with the bookies.

But can Lawton cause an upset? Will we see a much improved fighter in Khan?

Lawton is a good domestic fighter and a respectable first defence BUT we don't care about Khan being domestic. Domestic should be a stepping stone onto Europe then the world.

Khan had a scare and still needs to improve so an easy fight is ok HOWEVER he needs to fight Thaxton.

All this Khan v Mitchell, Murray etc is bollocks Khan needs to win the British title and move on. I believe ****** is hyping those fights so he can keep Khan away from Diaz, Diaz, Casamayor etc

Who would you rather your fighter face? Diaz or Mitchell?

Who exactly has Khan at 15th in the world?

Lawton is a good learnign fight, and in my opinion is acceptable as an opponent at this stage. Nobody complained when he fought Thaxton for the British title, did they? Afte Lawton is Earl in December, another acceptable contest for this point in khans career and not by any means a foregone conclusion. Especially if we see the earl that defeated romanov.

He's 7th with the WBO , and Earl is 8th so if Khan beats him after Lawton he will shoot up the rankings .

Thaxton is unranked by the WBO and 29th in the WBC . Shows you how much having a big promoter helps you .

According to FWTV today, Khan has admitted he is unlikely to face Thaxton for another 2 fights but is quoted as saying he is going to shut Thaxton up and a lot of other people to prove he is the best.

Khan is also quoted as saying that although Thaxton is strong and a good fighter when he came up against guys like Hatton and Magee he lost.

Khan says Thaxton is too slow and predictable, is a 4 or 5 round fighter and then hes knackered. Says he would box Thaxtons head off and keep hitting him until the referee had to intervene!

Jesus....talking like that is asking for trouble, especially when you almost got knocked out last fight.

If Khan takes on Thaxton after two more fights (Lawton then Stewart then Earl), I would be very surprised.

Khan may be more famous and wealthy but as Thaxton is a boxer who has achieved more in the sport than him I find his latest comments both unnecessary and disrespectful.

Khan thinks he can defy the powa of Frank!

Khan will have to deal with Thaxton next If he beats Lawton anyway and If Jono beats Stewart.

only way he can do that is to completely annihilate any opponent FW puts in front of him, thus forcing frank to raise the level of opposition more quickly than he intends to...which is pretty much why ****** was forced to throw him in with limond.

Hope Khan's struggle to make the weight for this fight doesn't become a factor as I would really like to see this one go the distance - think Khan needs to get more rounds under his belt.

Lawton is a good opponent for Khan at this stage of his career and I see Khan winning by late ko.

I reckon Khan will have taken care of him by the half-way stage , Lawton's height is normally an advantage for him but not in this case and I feel he will struggle to get off offensively because of it .

I'm thinking corner stoppage after Lawton taking a few too many .
