Burley was an expert at being awkward and defensive. The technical analysis is good but it is a style very similar to one employed by Hopkins. Burley was very good at it.

Burley was a Puncher, who had Hand trouble. He adapted and took Fights to live. He could have tairups with the best of them. Him and Charles to me are the Standouts to me of that time. Niether worked directly for the Mob, at a time when you needed too to succeed.

Great thread, some very interesting observations about the differences in stance.

And very true in my eyes. It's the reason why Hopkins is so incredibly savvy-defensively despite the fact he doesn't have great reflexes or reactions. He's just an incredibly uninviting target to hit because you don't see any gaps and he can slip punches with inches of movement. Timeless.

Understanding the strong theory here makes this kind of boxing a lot more appealing.

Maybe this kind of stance could be the answer for people wanting a decent shot at professional boxing but without the early years of training?

It takes a lot of years of correct schooling to achieve it.

I respect that, It's probably more a students approach to fighting more than anything.

I probably should of included thinking along the lines of a mentally adept person taking up boxing as opposed to someone who wanted to try their luck trading blows with a veteren.
