Default Duran/Buchanan: Why no Rematch?

I don't think there's any question that Roberto would have done the business the second time around, but there was undoubtedly a lingering degree of unfinished business given the manner of the victory in the first fight. Plus, it's not as if Buchanan turned into a tramp overnight. So why didn't the rematch happen?

If I had to identify a single reason, i'd say that it was that Buchanan had no manager. He was representing himself during much off the aftermath and was naively waiting for a phone call.

Duran was told be a fortune teller he would win a world title from a man in impessive fashion and then rematch his opponent and get schooled in the rematch despite being in just as good shape as the first fight, Duran believed this man was Ken Buchanan so tried to cheat destiny but no one cheats destiny

It was the lateral movement that did it, he just couldn't cope with the multi-directional quick feet, rapier jab and defensive prowess of the scot.

probably because the scottsman didnt want another does of brutalization. Ken probably felt he was too low on ability and couldnt compete

I remember reading that. Duran would probably have won more decisively in a rematch, but it's interesting to note that years later, after fighting people like Leonard and Hagler, that Roberto always named Ken as his toughest ever opponent. That is indeed respect to Buchanan, and deservedly so.
