I don't question hopkins.
He is a very intelligent fighter.

Only a ****ing fool would question what Hopkins studied before fighting Pavlik.

I had a feeling B-Hop would beat Pavlik while watching the 24/7 leading up to the fight. Hopkins and Richardson said they would put Pavlik's right in the same drawer they put Trinidad's left hook. He played it to perfection and dominated.

I wasn't convinced until the weigh-in. Somehow, KP looked extremely uncomfortable. Hop had been quiet the whole time, while all of this talk floated around about KP being the first to stop him. Then at the weigh-in, something happened. I can't quite explain it, but it's almost as if Kelly finally realized what he had gotten himself into.

I'd have to rewatch both (and I'm not going to), but I can't imagine him studying tape for direct comparisons. I would have watched it for mistakes to avoid (straight back vs. pressure) or capitalize on (lack of in-fighting ability vs. reliance on one type of in-fighting punch, etc.; Pavlik is a sucker for smothering his power on the inside) or to see how something that widely studied will affect the way other camps think.

when Mosley signed to fight Margo the first fight that came to my head was Hopkins vs Pavlik. And then when Mosley signed to fight Berto I thought Hopkins vs Taylor.

I didnt see the weight in, but I was there live & I remember in the replay KP asking his corner if he won the 1st round. I found that kind of odd. Maybe he thought that he was in for a long night.

I get it now, studying fighters with no defense and standing like a pillar and that is Margo. He must have seen how Cotto managed him and ran out of gas later. It makes sense.

Exellent analogy.......I too was of the opinion that just like Taylor vs Hopkins, Berto was going to have too much youth/athleticism, along with just enough skill to beat the aging fighter who has to rely more on guile and experience to win fights.
